You need to clean and disinfect the truck really well and never allow anyone who is a smoker entry. Either that or a new truck with no history of a smoker ever.
There are several threads on TTR regarding COPD and qualification to drive etc. Basically if you get to where you cough too much then it's not good to be in CDL work. So cleaning the truck is important to remove anything such as smoke etc that will create a situation for you.

As far as I understand it was against the law to smoke in a company truck if the truck was shared with other drivers, the same law about smoking inside buildings with co workers also was true in company trucks.

my dad died 3 years ago of COPD...the smell of cigarettes, or cigars (that i would smoke far away from him) never bothered him, even if the cigar smell got into the house..or was on my clothing.
i know that ex smokers cannot stand the smell of smoke of smoke choked clothing or the interior....
but a person with COPD shouldn;t really be affected by smells alone...
allergies can trigger problems with the nasal/sinuses, that i have a problem with at times myself.Last edited: Apr 27, 2019

Getting the truck clean is big. Most are full of dust after a couple of years. Need to wipe down EVERY surface. Hire help. It’s a job.
Next is treating the HVAC systems. Inside & out.
Below is what’s used in smoke & Fire remediation. And great for this.
ENERZEN
Ozone Generator (Amazon; $70) Timer plus Hold option.
Use this to de-odorize truck. A couple of hours helps, but a couple of DAYS is where smoke odor is eliminated.
Best to have a fan to help circulate. Use outside 120v
A couple of hours of running Cab & Bunk HVAC systems helps them. (Remove filters and clean condenser if possible).
Clean floors thoroughly. Hot water and brush.
Every bit of cleaning will help.
Also, good for home or cars. Even if never smoked in. Gets rid of the smell of “old”. You’ll use it everywhere.
Read up on How To Use. First.

Click here > See COPD oxygen machines
These are advertised a lot here in Las Vegas. Prescription from doctor may be approved for insurance.
Can carry it with you similar to a "man purse."
They're expensive, but worth it if it helps. Nothing worse than smothering to death due to lack of oxygen. My father died from COPD.
Slowmover1 and x1Heavy Thank this.
