Got a 03 W900 with the standard front axle. Has anyone put a set of the heavy haul wheels on the front and know what's all involved? I'm looking to do this for no other reason than i like the looks of the wide based wheels, so really what I'm looking for is some good reasons not put these on.

My friends -99 has european size 11.75" wheels and 385/55R22.5" tyres, no problems.

A lot of the 4 axle guys run "coach wheels and tires" They are a 345/65/22.5 Michelin. They fit nicer and get good wear out of them and say they are better in rain and snow than the off road type tire. They are basically a bus tire.

You can swap on the wide based singles with no other modifications, you'll just have to check your backspacing to be sure they clear. Don't put them on though. The rims are expensive and the tires cost even more. Not to mention that they are heavier and you won't get the higher weight rating on you steer axle. Most DOT officers I know will look at the steer axle if you have wide based tires on them. And guess what. They will write ya an overaxle ticket if ya don't have the higher weight rated axle. Personally I think it would be a big waste of money, unless your truck is speced for them and your operations deem them nessecary.
Dominick253 and d-man57 Thank this. -
I already have the wheels, picked them up at a place that went out of business and don't have much in them. The weight issue won't be a problem for what I've been hauling. Never really considered the DOT aspect, but that's why I'm asking first. It's an unnecessary item, I just like the look.

The only real difference between 12 or 14 pound front end is the brakes! Larger capacities will have the bigger front brakes. Remember, if your truck is built with a light front end, you can't just put bigger tires on to carry more weight! You will be overloaded for the braking capacity! So just remember if this is for looks only you should be fine.

I did it for floatation, not weight, it does look alot better. All I did was measure how much back spacing I needed and got some new rims. The rims were $385 a piece. Aluminums were only $30 more per rim than steel! I also had to cut about 2" off my fenders because these tires are much taller. These things are monsters compared to my old ones.Last edited: Apr 4, 2009

I bolted one up a couple of weeks ago and everything fits inside the fenders with no rubbing. I have more inside offset than the T600 of kwforage. I went to the sale with the intention to buy shop equipment and when that got out of hand i bid $200 on the tires and wheels. New stuff never been run, but the tires are bigger than i want. Other than the DOT issue, my main concern was the steering and wear. Went through the front end back in Dec. with kingpins, spring bushings, and an alignment. I can be a little hard headed at times and some of my bright ideas haven't worked in the past, this may be another. I figure by the time i buy the tires and hardware I'll have a grand wrapped up in this possible mistake just for looks. I'm about 50/50 on it right now.
