I am heading out to LA. The load weighs 39000. I am routed through Denver and I thought it might be better to run the south route through New Mexico. The miles are similar, and I wish to take the flattest route. Does anyone have a suggestion to help me decide?
    Thanks in advance.

I-70 West to I-44 at St.Louis,Mo. I-40 at Oklahoma City. Stay on I-40 all the way to Barstow Ca. I-15 to I-10 into L.A. GOOD WESTCOAST TRUCKING AS GOOD AS IT GETS. P.S. Amarillo Texas is half way there from Indy. I wish you well.

    JGordon Thanks this.

What pin headed company is running you through Denver to save 20 miles?

If they allow you to re-route. I would take the one stated in the other post. Since you have been given a route, I must assume they have given you fuel stops. So you'll need to get your routing changed, to correct fuel stops.

There is less chance of bad weather, fewer grades, and less high wind area.

Of course if you drive for Covenant or SRT, I understand it completely and wish you luck.

I already thought it would be better to travel south. Thanks for the input. Got to get going. :biggrin_25525:

That's by far the best way. Why climb the MTNs when you don't have to?

That's route i always take. As does my company.
$28.50 for the toll on I-44 there in Oklahoma.

Now i disagree with the part about the good west coast trucking.
New Mexico and Arizona, California, way to boring. Give me Wyoming, Nebraska any day.

Climbing out of Denver with only 39,000 is nothing. Try a 44,000 out of Coors, going west over Vail.
70 west out of Denver, is one of my favoret drives. Glenwood Canyon, Vail Pass.

Being from Michigan/Ohio, all the roads west are great! I miss running out that way. But don't miss the weeks away from home. I would say Nebraska and Wyoming are a little more boring to me though. But Glenwood Canyon... Vail Pass.... GORGEOUS!!!

And I do NOT miss pulling out of Coor's. Back in the day when I did it the scale was usually broke there and once you pulled the load off the lot to go to the TA and scale it the load was yours and they wouldn't fix it if it was off, which most times it was because they refused to load it the way I asked them too. Many many many arguments with them. I won't drink Coor's to this day. LOL

Yep, that's what I thought...he thinks 39k is heavy he doesn't have a clue. Most of the time I'm putting a shoulder to the door to get it to shut. :biggrin_25525:

Try 119,000 with a 350 cummins from Salt Lake to Cheyenne. You could walk faster than that truck pulled I80.
