If you were concern about the safety of your family, then you would tell people like the op that maybe this isn't for them and get off the road.

It sucks when a driver can't handle the sleep changes and pushes himself to deliver crap on time but it really sucks that when he is so fatigued that he can't function enough to drive and kills someone.

I am on the side of the driver up to the point of terminating contracts because of dispatchers threatening my drivers,

i am stating a fact, these carriers only sees the customers needs, not the drivers, that is the reality of this. The driver is given the power to say no, many of them won't and others cry about the carrier or hos forcing them to do something that can't/won't do.

If I see a plan that requires me driving close to or past midnight, I refuse the load upfront. I'm not only a safety hazard at this point but also useless the next day.
If a customer screws up my shift at a loading dock and they feel a rush for that load to get to the destination, it's their problem, not mine. I'm leaving after 7 hours at the dock and shut down when my 14 hours run out. They wasted my day, not me.

My natural and comfortable work window is somewhere from 5am till 9pm. If somebody wants me to leave at 4, well, ok,a bit early but doable.

Each driver prefers different hours. I prefer starting around 2:00 am. I can get out of metro areas at the speed limit, then watch the sun rise in the country. I stop for a 30 anywhere I want, as most drivers have vacated their parking spots. By the time I shut down it is early to mid afternoon, with lots of parking available.

Been saying that for years now, that's a great way to run if you can make it happen. Can't start until 4am tomorrow, not happy about that.
