Put an oil bypass on it like OPS to keep your oil clean and do regular oil samples and change it when it needs it not by some made up milage. Or if you want to just do it every 15-20k and you should be good.
ichudov Thanks this. -
Which bypass would you recommend?
-
In front of filter is a cap, uses a half in ratchet to remove, the buy a cat bypass, 1w-8845 is filter is memory serves correct
-
What kind of bypass is it? jUST A HOUSING FOR THAT ADVANCED efficiency filter?
-
The oil filter housing has on the engine has provision for bypass that's just capped off, remove cap and install this filter. It is a cat bypass filter designed for engine

Thanks. I have some doubts about whether it is too late to install a bypass. We change oil ourselves so it is not that expensive. Anyway, I will stop by our Cat dealer and ask them for suggestions on bypass. If I can get another 300-400k out of this truck. that would be plainly awesome. It is old and not without problems, but these are simple and cheap problems so far. (knock on wood)

I personally go by hours. Last oil change I was at almost 800hrs. I don't have a bypass filter but I use oil analysis. I've got a C15 btw.

Ditto what everyone else is saying . Take a oil sample. But regardless of the oil sample replace the oil filter every 10,000 miles. Or take oil samples of whatever oil your using every 250 engine hours and send it to the lab. Run it til they say it's bad.
ichudov Thanks this.
