As a dedicated deck hauler in a fleet with many types of trailers, flats, drop decks, double drops, combine trailers, low beds and etc, I carried 16 chains 3/8" X 25' and 8 straps.
As a dedicated steel hauler pulling a set of trains, A & B type, I carried 20 chains 3/8" X 20' and 4 chains 1/2" X 20", no straps.
Even when pulling a box or reefer I carried a few 25' X 3/8" chains because they have many uses and are just handy to have around.
I even worked for a couple companies that wouldn't allow 5/16" chains, considered too light for the job.
It's your choice, but if it was my choice I would go with 3/8" X 25' chains, the best you can find, or afford.
It's better to have too much chain than not enough.
I bought 4 cheap chains one time, thought I was getting a deal.
The first load I used them on, a load of lumber, the chains stretched 6 to 8 inches, was wondering why they were loose every time I stopped and checked them.jamespmack, HoneyBadger67, booley and 1 other person Thank this. -
The guy believed that, no kidding. Found out the guy he was hauling for. Had bought a 55 gallon barrel of chain. Got it at steel of a price. One of his trucks, was put out of service. Chain had not rating. And every link had stretched on the chain. Sad part is they were hauling 44K coils.

I thought this was going to be about chain wallets. I really need to know what length chain to get.
