We probably run 40% empty, and only around 20K per year. The tires are not top of the line, but plenty expensive for us.

    96K on a tandem?

I agree, how ever the guy like a buddy of mine. Runs his farm truck 11 or 12k a years. Can't justify the expense to sit and rot. I don't care what brand it is. 7 years of O2 in a tire starts to break down rubber. Then Uv exposure had a huge affect compounded. 7 years and I don't care how many or few miles they have, your on barowed time. You have to work with in your operation. Not what others do.

Im not being a dick, I dont haul that heavy. Does not mean I havent. Or worked in fleets that did. Or sell tires. If you read my post you will see Im trying to understand his operation and figure out a starting point. Then he can fine tune it from there. Blank statements about what one does mean nothing. No one hear does the exact samething.

I would wholeheartedly agree with that a few years ago. I unfortunately had two different Trucks with cheap steers that were rounded off edges within 40,000 miles. Kelly Springfield equals Pure junk.
However I also had very good wear from some Chinese trailer tires on the lease roads in the oil field in Texas. Double Eagle I think ? Double Coin possibly.
I always had very good wear and results from Michelin steers and in my opinion they are worth the money for steers.
But some of the Chinese trailer tires are worth looking into if the price is good, from my experience.
Of course there's a lot of different opinions on this topic.

    Tandem tractor, Tandem trailer.

So your never loaded 100% of the time. I know we all wish we could be. So really milage as in wear and in fuel economy is not a large concern. Ride, reliability and if Im correct you get into some sloppy mud. I would go with the tire Psi chart for your brand and in between you max, and light weight. Now you can carry a temp gun and check them hot. You will see that a under inflated tire runs hot. A over inflated tire will too. Find the middle. On a personal side over 100psi in and steer on a otr class 8 truck rides like poop to me. But thats me.

Fleets love the high psi, increases mpg sales pitch. It works for them. Tires are cheap to them. The fuel milage sight gain will not off set faster wear.

But who am I to tell anyone anything.

I've had a lot of problems with caps myself the times I was stuck with them. Cool and cold weather they were so so but the minute the weather got warm they were popping like popcorn.
Lose two or three in a week ( which I have on a flatbed ) and those just blew your whole week.

I am being a dick, this is no different than when you tried to tell us 46,000 lbs rears were no different than 40’s. He asked for advice from people who are doing it every day. And what their experience has been. You try to run a lowboy tire at 95 or even a 100 psi they will get hot and blow. You will also develope far more irregular wear at that psi. The man can look at charts on his own, he was asking for previous experience.

The china tires suck, however part time, or equipment that sit and get used very little its hard to justify expensive tires. I run virgin Mich XZE's on my trailers. A farmer, scrap hauler, quarry truck would be nuts to buy them.

Just need to figure out what works for you.

That one particular brand was on a lot of the pneumatic tanks on some rough roads and were trouble free.
I was surprised at the time and was keeping an eye out for wear or any word of tire problems from the rest of the fleet. Not one problem that I ever heard of and they wore like Steel.
I know that most Chinese brands have a horrible reputation and I knew it then too. That was why I was paying extra attention to them. They were hard to the touch. A different texture. I was only running there for about 5 months that time though.
