New to the forum. Can I get some input?
My headlights go out with at the same as my speedometer as I’m driving. I take the shifter out of gear and they come on for a while and go out again. My voltage meter is high @18 volts. It goes down once I take out the shifter from gear any ideas where to start? Much appreciated.

Tap on the alternator with a hard object like a hammer.
    Your alternator have dust buildup.

Or your alternator may be on way out.
Such as voltage regulator, or diodes, or brushes?

High voltage also kills the cab computer which is why dash dies.
Fix the high voltage and everything else will also be fixed.
    Probably a bad alternator

    Goodysnap and spsauerland Thank this.

    See above^^^^^^^^

If Paccar, the CECU is seeing the high voltage and shutting down to protect other components from damage.

    pushbroom Thanks this.
