How much experience do you have to have for them to not send you out with a trainer?

i did 6 months, including 3 weeks with a trainer, with dickie simon. then when gordon hired me, i passed the "road test" during orientation and they turned me loose in my own truck.

If by "them" you mean compies it's 6 mos otr for most of them. And that is recent time. If it's been more then 6 mos sense you have been on the road and you have less then a year then they still may require it.

Our insurance carrier requires 1 year OTR before a driver can run solo.

    Good Job!

I remember when the speed limit was raised by federal legislation & Ohio decided to keep theirs at 55 MPH. You used to hear on the C.B. all the time that "they're going to make Ohio raise the speed limit to 65 for trucks". I'd always ask "Who is they"? Drove drivers mad!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would think when the trainer and company is ready to let you go. They might have a minimum 6 mo matter how good you are. Then they may depend on the trainer and when he says. Depends on what compnay. I hope you get a trainer with many years of good experience and he or she takes the time to teach you how to drive and not just all the compamy junk.

It just depends on the company you hire on with. "They" all seem to have their own policies.:biggrin_25519:
