All this crap about "make them write the ticket" blah.... The whole point of over securement is to avoid unnecessary hassles. While y'all are busy arguing with DOT about how your minimum required work is legal, I'll be tooling down the road knowing my extra 15min or whatever kept my fat ### out of the inspection lane.
65k, 4 chains, good to go

Every piece of machinery I secure, I ensure that any and all movement is accounted for. Fact: a lot of prepass sites have cameras before the scale. You might be legal weight but "the man" is rolling you over his scale looking at your load. Even oversized, he can give you the green light just because your securement tells him you've got your #### sorted. Extra chain, softeners, etc all give him less to find wrong resulting in less chance of being pulled around back.
Again, why *invite* hassle just because you wanna be "right"?Nightcrawler99, kptnt2016 and booley Thank this. -
Sure, you move 6 or 8 machines a day and tell me by the 30th one Friday afternoon you’re going to put 12 chains on a D3. BS, I don’t invite hassle and as I’ve said I have very little trouble but I will stand my ground when I’m right. You rollover and play dead I’ll stick up for myself.

Why put 8 1/2” chains on a 15,000 pound tractor? The movement can be more than accounted for with four. I don’t know why you are afraid of law enforcement. If it’s done right they won’t say a word.

Fun fact about @Humblepie he was on the SNHU online debate team, so it’s his nature to argue. His school won first place in the national finals two years straight. In 2003, his senior year, University of Phoenix was in the finals against him.
There was this young arrogant driver named Adam who was attending U of Phoenix and he had just watched a JJ Keller securement video prior to the competition. He beat out Humble in the lightning round and later went on to set the industry standards with cross strapping tarped Coils and building header boards out of dunnage. @snowman_w900 actually has the debate on VHS.
Humble resents him to this day. -
I don’t know why you have to keep bringing that up. I still think I was right. You can secure a d8 with bungee cords. They have a wll of 50 pounds. 25 pounds for direct securement. So if you use 3200 it is legal. I would probably do 3500 though just to be safe.

And as usual, you leave out that the final question distinguished it was a Massachussettes requirement, and there was a contigency on stake pockets and chafing.
I think you were both right, but you had gotten a little too big for your Kakalakee britches after winning two years straight.cke, booley, snowman_w900 and 3 others Thank this. -
Are you sure on the VHS evidence? I’m thinking he accidentally recorded some midget porn over it.
