To me crap like this is either an honest mistake in case if its a good broker or a game.
I would never stop them from loading then when far enough call them. See what they say. If it's just a mistake they normally pay reasonable price for it. If they trying play games, I'm all in. Before or after the load is on your trailer you got little power, but not when its on your truck. If they not paying just don't show that you mad or anything. Just make something up, like you are going to park right now and gonna go on vacation, or that you found a place for cross docking near by and you taking it there with their consent. As long as you gonna make them to believe that you are nutts it'll do the justice. I get what i ask for probably 3 times out of 4. -
Have always based rates on full truck load.
If the actual product is less, gravy for me.
If it is full weight, gravy for shipper.
In the end of it all it washes out even.
Now if the customer specifically states it LTL, and asked for a spec rate, I ask if they want exclusive or can it go with another LTL.Opendeckin Thanks this. -
What's da matta with you. That trailer will take anything up to whatever it's good for as long both power and trailer does not exceed 80000.
IF you are trying to welsh out and only take mail loads at 9000 pounds to save fuel then your business is not doing well.
I have never refused a load because its just too heavy. Isnt that silly to any of you? And here you are refusing them for what? A few cents per mile and a few hundred in fuel?larry2903 Thanks this. -
Yeah, but you've never been an owner operator, have you?
So the consequences of you refusing a load over 10 years ago are much different than those of the OP, aren't they?4mer trucker Thanks this. -
I appreciate these words of encouragement. I lost $1000 in revenue that my small business and family won’t have. I did it exactly because I thought about how many of my fellow owner operators have to go through this.olddog_newtricks Thanks this.

I couldn’t believe it a huge chemical plant shipping dept and a broker from one of the largest Logistics firms of our nation. Isn’t outrageous? Thanks for listening Bro!

It seems like you were tired or frustrated and just made a wrong choice, thats what dishonest brokers expect. First thing i realized when i became oo is that you have to have clear mind at all times. Frankly, I'd rather be a little late then get tired. One night messes whole trip up...
When i use to be leased to someone i had a dispatch that i learned a lot from, he was with landstar for like 10 years or so. And let me tell you there were times that he couldn't believe how much i could negotiate out of a load for simple stuff.
As i said, play that game, dont threat them, be nice, but change the terms and they wont play with you. They'll want to go home.
Last time i pulled something like this was when i had 3 loads from 1 yard near port to another, next door. It was some beams coming from overseas that needed few holes added to them.so there was a guy who rented a space for it and i was just bringing it literally next door. I did 2, third one i didnt even strap, and when they were unloading it he didnt like the fact that im freely walking and asked me to stay back, for wich i said ill just go to my truck and started walking, and he flipped out and kicked me out of "his job site" yelling. I said ok, and just backed out 200 yards, called the broker and said that i didn't do nothing wrong and either he apologize or i want $1000 on top of $500 to deliver, i honestly would've been happy with $200 but they paid whole $1,000Last edited: May 12, 2019

How did you pull this one off? As you said earlier you don’t have much power after you’ve been unloaded.... I don’t understand since they’re already unloading you when he started kicking you out.
