It happened when i was still unloading, so i had a good half of the load on my trailer. That guy was just being silly. I heard he ended up hurting himself so his company had to replace him.

We also load a lot of trucks. What usually happens is we will have a big machine disassembled going on multiple loads. The customer will have us put 1 big piece on a load and fill the rest of the load with smaller items. More often than not, the broker will just mention the big piece and fail to mention the smaller pieces that also go with the load. I assume the reason for the broker not mentioning the small pieces is to try to get the driver to take the load for a cheaper price.

He made a decision and it really doesn't matter if you agree or not. Personally that's a bit much for me to swallow on the miles from home. I would have asked for a couple hundred more but again that's me.

I just always assumed dry van work was quoted at a full load, unless you are running LTL.

More then likely the customer calls the broker and says we have a machine to move and we need x number of trucks or we have a machine to move that can be broken down into x number of pieces weighing y weight each

sounds like a load of automotive freight.
"Yeah we gotta a 20,000lb load of engines" that is sitting in15,000lbs of engine racks.

Your fellow OP that came in and covered the load you refused, really appreciated it. He got a premium rate.A little negotiation might have saved you the aggravation, I’m sure it felt good to refuse the load, but not so good , figuring the lost revenue. And either way, your still angry about it.

That sounds like a normal everyday scenario. Find a better broker or find your own freight.
