Here's some info on it . http://www.todaystrucking.com/features.cfm?intDocID=20593 Here's why it is wrong . http://dailyheadlines.uark.edu/8286.htm
The ATA petitioned NHTSA to mandate speed limiters in 2006 . The petition was denied because NHTSA was aware of previous studies that concluded the same as the U of A research . Go to the OOIDA website for more info on the Ontario bill .longbox262 Thanks this. -
thanks rick for the links and info, the u of a link highlights the view most drivers take i would say? i know from searching the web another issue brought up i've seen was in regards to passing other governed trucks and about hauling into other areas of canada/u.s. that don't have legislation. thoughts? i've as well noticed that it has been said that if they govern the trucks why not the cars due to the lack of regard for safety possed by most car drivers.
thanks again

If you use the forum search option at the top of the page, and set it to search threads for Ontario Speed Limiter, you will find some useful info while you wait for others to post.
Not all members get on here on a daily basis, so it may take a bit for you to get some responses.longbox262 Thanks this. -
Here's more . http://www.heavydutytrucking.com/2008/08/012c0808.asp
Also a Michelin tire safety video demonstrated the way to maintain control when a truck blows a tire is to accelerate . When a truck has a speed limiter many drivers run at top speed and ould not be able to accelerate .longbox262 Thanks this. -
Here's that video I mentioned . Drivers running 105 km/h against the limiter will be in trouble if a tire blows . http://www.olblueusa.org/video/streaming/tire_blowout.html

I'm glad RickG posted that video because at the 5:50 mark it contains an observation that I intended to make to his post in the other Ontario Speed Limiter thread when I got back from the road: if your equipment's governed, don't run against the limiter, but instead leave additional room on your speedometre to allow you to accelerate in situations such as this. This is another reason why I run my equipment at 60mph (98kph).
The risk of tire blow-outs isn't an argument against speed limiters. It's an argument against cruising at the maximum limited speed.
Hope that wasn't too long winded!longbox262 Thanks this. -
Here is my fillings on it. I drive a governed truck set at 65mph. I don't fill there is any reason a truck needs to go over 70mph. Ever, it's just unsafe. However it is not the place of the government to make drivers put a governor in there trucks. If a company wants to set there speed at a set point that is there business. But the government should not say that ALL trucks must be set to run no faster the xx speed. If the government really wants to cut down on the number of accidents then they would mandate a governed speed for cars. They cause 85% of all accidents.

true it should be up to the invidual companies to decided wether to govern their trucks or not. but what about the o/o's? or do they fall under the companies they drive for?
thanks again

It varies with the contract but many carriers require their trucks at a company mandated speed .
