No, he was in jail for a while because of paperwork and clerical mistakes. The wost part is he had a few months left to finish his CR England lease but lost everything.

To this day he hasn't been back to California and refuses to eat tofu or drink cucumber water.

    Depends on situation.

Once had a bunch of Amish kids in the back of a wagon give me the signal. No air horn, it'll scare the horse.

Once had a kid at recess running down a hill to give me the signal. Lots of air horn, screw the teacher inside trying to teach math.

I used to deliver in Amish country a lot. One of my favorite stories was delivering a load of square tubing to a farm. I was running early and the two boys who were about 6 and 9 told me their dad was gone but was on his way back to unload his bundle. It was my last stop so I had time to wait. They had a nice pond and I talked fishing with the kids for a few minutes, then got back in the truck to catch up on some paperwork. About ten minutes later I look in the mirror to see the boys dragging a five gallon bucket along the ground next to the trailer. They had caught a big catfish and it was such a beauty they brought it over to show me.

As i left heading back to the highway I passed 5-6 Amish boys sitting on fence rails pumping their arms up and down. There wasn't any reason not to, so I gave each one of them a shot on the air horn and they gave me huge smiles and thumbs up. I made their day and they made mine in return.

I know @snowman_w900 has an interesting method. He uses a tilt down dry erase board and lists pros and cons for each horn honking situation.

He used to be cavalier about honking but something bad happened. If he cares to share it.

:read2: It's right here in the manhood manual " If a small child makes the fist pumping gesture you must honk the air horn" also, " ladies with nice racks get a honk, no gesture needed" I think some of you guys need to hand in your man cards.

Very rarely does a kid request, and rarely have I complied. And never immediately.
The requests more often seem to come from 20 something year old guys on their way to or home from the bars. Which I ignore. Grow up, bro.

I'm glad I still meet some of the criteria!! Of course when there's other cars surrounding you, it could be a mixed signal to them.

Was that Amish farm just up the road from Myerstown? I delivered tube there. No big catfish that day, but was a beautiful place. And kids wanting to hear the horn.

Northern Indiana, around Elkhart I believe. There's a big Amish presence up there. The farmer in my previous post became a regular stop and I got to know him a little. He raised some fine horses and sold my dad a beautiful matched pair of Morgans.

I just remembered that about ten years ago my town passed a noise ordinance specifically targeting truck horns. There was a kid that lived on one of the main streets through town that was severely disabled and couldn't do much, but he loved the big trucks and would sit at the end of the driveway in his wheelchair signalling for them to honk. A lot of local drivers gave him hats with their company logo, and he would wear a different one each day.

Then the city passed the ordinance even though none of the neighbors had complained, and started ticketing drivers. The situation blew up in the way that only small town issues can. There were angry editorials in the local paper, and one of the shopkeepers painted his display window with a cartoon portraying the city council as grinches stealing away one of the kid's few joys.

Eventually the ordinance was amended to "between the hours of..." and left a couple hour window during which the kid could go outside and get the trucks to honk again.
