Why 10000 miles?
Just get a new one, tires are cheap compared to a lawsuit or killing someone.SteveScott and stillwurkin Thank this. -
Looks like it’s coming apart to Me. Having seen steer tires that look perfectly fine blow for not apparent reason, I’d rather change it out. At least keep a very close eye on it for any changes. I will run a tire to the very end, but a weird separation like that, is troublesome.

Now that you've posted it on the Internet with your obvious doubt in the integrity of the tire; Do you think they'll find you guilty of willful negligence if something really bad happens?
Tombstone69, spyder7723 and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this. -
You can have a end play gauge put on that tire and wheel to ck if you have too much play in the wheel bearings on that side before you put a new tire on and have it wear out the same way?

i have to run through #4 blast stone (AKA tire scrubber) on and off construction sites several times a day personally, I lose tread pieces frequently and if i was to replace a tire for that minimal damage i would be out of business within a month and so would others that are in my line of work. I can understand how you guys that stay on black top all day would be freightened of all little tread missing but hey, yeah no way in heck do we change out steers for a little rubber missing from the tread
No disrepect to others commenting in the thread, just food for thought that conditions arent always perfect.stillwurkin, Canadianhauler21 and Joetro Thank this. -
It's fine. Run it. Keep an eye on it, but run it.

I'm inclined to agree with Dave in As, but if it wasn't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all, and something would probably happen. That being said take a pair of needlenose and see if any part of that cut will expose steel. If it doesn't I'd say you're good to go. If it does put them(the pair) on you're trailer and get a new set( put the cut to the inside).

I'd run that tire all day every day on a trailer. But not on the steers. Don't risk it change it out.
