Here’s my situation, I’m in the underground utility installation industry, and they want all their directional drill operators to have a class a cdl with the tanker endorsement so we can haul our drill rig and water truck from job to job without needing another guy on the crew to drive the truck just cause the driller and the locator lack a CDL.
I took the written tests for the CDL permit in Florida, but never took the road test. Just recently took a job in Omaha, Nebraska, and they gave my crew an International with a small tank and a trailer, and I’ve been getting plenty of seat time in it.
I’ve been told that I can take the road test portion of the CDL exam anywhere, is this true? And does anyone have any good recommendations for places to take the test up here in the Midwest? I’d be willing to drive anywhere within two or three hours up here, maybe more. And any advice for anyone in my situation?
Need road test, w/o any kind of trucking school.

your company should provide the equipment you will be driving for the test.
if not, do what I did, go to a driving school and pay to be tested in one of theirs.
if you pass, take the certificate to DMV and get your CDL.tscottme Thanks this. -

So was I correct to go off what I was told that I can take the road test anywhere as long as I took the certificate back to my home DMV for the license?

I have a hard time beliving you can take the test in a different state than you plan to be licensed in, but I have been wrong before.

49 CFR § 383.79 - Driving skills testing of out-of-State students; knowledge and driving skills testing of military personnel.
This is from the Federal regulations, I guess it’s some new rule, but what it looks like it’s saying is that I can take the test anywhere in America and my home state is supposed to honor the results. If so I’d like to find the easiest place in America to take the test .
Here’s some more info I found on it, it explains the rule a bit better than I did.

The test is not hard, just take it when handy. Look at the drivers you see on the road, and ask yourself, how hard can it be. lol

Why not just go to the local DMV and take the road test?
