AMT reportedly gets 1mpg or more better gas mileage.
That Times a bunch of trucks = something like $10,000 per year per truck if I understand this correctly.
Backing with a AMT is as easy as manual once you learn how to feather the throttle. In my opinion it’s like learning on a manual. Sucks until you get it.
iShift is a jillion Times better than Eaton. The DD12 in freightliners is pretty awesome. It’s got this cruise control for the jakes. Set it at lets say 35mph on the Grapevine and the Truck will maintain around that speed going downhill.
Ok manual guys go ahead and throw stones. I’m ready.
Really getting tired of this: Any tips on dealing with automated transmission?

When I first got into an Eaton Auto I had all of the same complaints.
Now, a year later and reading your post I realize that none of those things are an issue anymore.
Practice makes perfect (or so they say).

My trainee’s always ask how I back an AMT so smoothly. I tell them don’t press the accelerator pedal down...just think about pressing it down and it will start to back. If you want it to slow down while backing just don’t think so hard. I always laugh and they think I’m a lunatic. It’s perfect. LOL

Manual? Is it a spicer transmission? If it’s one of those I drove one of those years ago. It was a synchro transmission so I could start in 1st or second. If it’s not one of those I’ve got no idea.
Good luck on your test. You’ll do great!! -
thanks ...

The automatic transmission became popular years ago when corporate trucking companies figured out that the pizza delivery guy could be a truck driver too and they wouldn't have to pay him much since he works for tips.
Now corporate trucking companies are working hard to totally replace the driver with a computer that will drive the truck.mustang190 and x1Heavy Thank this. -
