I am get gushing amount of air from the passenger side brake chamber when service brakes are applied and nothing when its not. I can squeeze the hose leading to the chamber and can see it closes and open. Which leads me to believe the chamber is functioning as it should and leaning more towards the ABS modulator valve (AMV).
The posts I read says, if air is coming from the exhaust port on the AMV when the service brake are applied then that's the problem, but my is escaping from the brake chamber out of only one hole, which is on the side pointing to the wheel.
Hope to get it fixed before they schedule my inspection and road test.

The brake chamber is the problem.
KB3MMX Thanks this. -
diaphragm inside the brake chamber has a hole in it

I am inclined to think the diaphragm is got a hole in it.
Not only you should be losing air with a hole like that your primary should be falling pretty good followed by secondary. Only when your service brake is applied.
One of the things that I had when it made a hole in mine that time was too much stuff inside the air system on mine. No air dryer or cleaner. Just drain every night. And so it got to the diaphagm and ate a hole through it. Once replaced and air system is drained every night it improved. But ultimately a installation of a air dryer would do much better on that older truck.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Brake chambers are cheap. Buy it over the counter at a dealer or at a parts house, then get a TA or some other shop to do the labor if you'r not into it yourself. I'd replace that one and the corresponding one on the other side at the same time.KB3MMX Thanks this. -
Just trying all angles, there should be no air at the ABS modulator valve unless it is a abs event, but my is letting air out off the value at normal brake pedal pressure.
I can squeeze the line leading to the brake chamber and can see it functioning. Wouldn't a bad chamber not function, with the amount of air that been lost, dump my entire tanks in less than a minute.
Going to see if I can post a video. -
Here's a video that shows a guy replacing just the diaphragm. I'd do the whole chamber myself, but this is instructive.
brake can repair type 30/30 service break air leak -
Don't know if that pertains to me. Wish I could upload my video. That's would truly help in explaining.
Going to go swap out both. Was planning on changing the two front chambers anyway. This just gives me a reason to do so.
Can't find parts numbers anywhere for the ABS modulator valve or the chambers. Why searching for volvo parts so difficult.Last edited: May 28, 2019
Snailexpress Thanks this. -
It’s the diaphragm, bought 2 brake chambers today, 40 bucks each. You con change the rubber diaphragm if you can find one, just one bolt to change it.

Steer axle? If air is leaking from the service chamber itself, the diaphragm is blown. Plain and simple.
And no, there will always be air passing through the ABS modulator valve during a service brake application. It will only come out of the modulator's exhaust port during an ABS event.
