Why is everyone complaining about the rates?

Putting it to a word file is definitely a good point.

I added little bit more to my post FYI. But yeah it helps tremendously until you get into a routine. If the broker is in control or senses he is then he’s more confident to steam roll you. If you are more in control that only helps you.

Oh I had one more point. Things don’t start happening until 7am eastern at the earliest. 8am is when most brokers are up and running. 6am is dead.

Lastly, you gotta be willing to make a ton of calls. I have two guys that basically make calls all day long and negotiate very tough.

I posted my truck on DAT yesterday for my preferred lane on the west coast and received a call from a very nice lady about a load next week. Surprisingly, when I asked what it was paying she gave me a rate that worked out to $3 a mile which is great for that lane right now. Since it was a week away and I know she can find somebody to take it for less, I accepted the rate and she seemed surprised. I told her that she seems nice and we both know what rates are like now. I said if you still want me to take the load after a few more days, I'll look forward to working with her a lot in the future. It's nice when they call and don't have an attitude.

May i ask what is your preferred lane. I know at this point i should discard the dat average rate but i will just use it as a reference. I feel go the east coast is like 1.5 dollars/mile and then come back to California is less than that. going to TX is around 1.67 dollars/mile but the broker would not even give you that much, and come back from TX to California is lower than that. the only place that has over 2 dollar rates is like Denver and WA, which are like a dead end and back haul to California is dirt cheap...

    Pretty much yeah.

As far as coast to coast rates, even in the best conditions those are hard to negotiate. On my brokerage side if I post a load say IN to TX I’ll get 10 calls immediately. If I post a CA to IN it’s less but still many many calls. Seems like there must be a lot of people who want to run their wheels off for cheap.

Id suggest setting up a more regional out and back or triangle for yourself.

    Wow. Just wow.
At 8 mpg, that won't even buy your gas.
I wouldn't drive from one side of Nashville to the other for 200 bucks.
Probably live on both ends too.
    Oh my
