I don't know how it is down in the States, but up here in Ontario Canada, beggers can't be choosers. I am new to the business (just got my AZ 2 days ago) and it isn't easy competing with 20 year vets for jobs. I don't wanna do teams either, but I will just to get the experience behind me. I called one company today that put an ad in the paper for 24 drivers, I asked if they are recruiting rookies, he laughed and said he is turning guys away with 20 years of experience, that's how flooded with out of work truckers it is. I wish you luck in your venture. Keep pounding the pavement and someone is bound to pick up on your ambition and wllingness to succeed, becasue that's all us rookies have going for us haha.
England screwed me...I need a job!

They are forcing you to team with another person in your area. If you say no, they can you.
-
you have no chance except mabey swift. And if you didn't like CR you wont like them.
better learn a new phrase. "would you like fries with that" harsh I know but unfortunatly it's the reality. job market sucks and you not only have no experience but to the other crappy companies they now know you won't let them run all over you and take advantage of you. So they'll hire someone else. -
I should be going to work next week for an o/o that is leased onto Swift. He plans to get his own authority, run for other co's and get more trucks (next year). I was on his truck for 3 weeks as a trainee and my trainer was pretty happy with him..
Just get back out there, but it is definitely a tough market. If this opportunity hadn't come, I'm not sure if I would able to have remained in trucking in this current economic climate. -
I don't see the point. After reading about Eng and seeing all the negative crap about them, You go to work for them anyway? You need your head examined and to get a job at Jack In The Box. I drove a B Model Mack with 237 HP up and down mountains in 100 degree heat and freezing cold. The truck was so bad it had holes in the floor and leaked slush int he winter and the summer time temps were about 150. We did'nt have truckstops in the SW like they have now, you might ahve ahose to wash off with.

How is it, CR England continues to hire, when Swift is in a hiring freeze.
-
I've been wondering about that and have a guesstimate: the CDL mills aren't just slowing down or freezing hires because of freight; it may be because of saturation. I mean, how many people can you run thru a mill, get your gov't stipend for each one, and continue to get away with it? Surely Unca Sam (Bammy?) has begun to notice that it's a scam for the money.

Naw man, I believe ya; just couldn't resist! I DID do the "sleeping across the seats" thing tho...in a boneshakin' old Road Boss...you remember, the ones with the bouncing headlights! -
Did you check youre DAC to see if England put anything on there. I would get a copy of it before applying to other companies.
