I was doing one of those slow passes today and just as i got past the big ole RV I saw the scale open, didn't see the signs. What would you do?

I pulled off at the very next exit and waited about 10 minutes but nobody ever came after me.

I agree with dieselbear in that you were very lucky. You might want to buy two or three lottery tickets tonight.

I have a friend who honestly blew by the scale on I-95 in Port Wentworth GA. They came after him. Made him come back up and go across the scale. Then come in side. According to him, they let him go with a verbal. He said the DOT man there told him the fine for blowing the scale was about $1,000. This figure didn't include any other fines for logs, weight, etc.

it all depends on the state and the officers mood that day.i've blown the scale on i-20 east coming from AL and the only reason i got a ticket is for being in the wrong lane.he looked at my bills and length of axle space and knew if i was overweight or not. u should've been able to see the signs for the scale a 1/2 mile or so before u hit it. therefore u can't say u didn't know it was there.

I blew the East bound scale on 40, west of Oklahoma City a while back. In the hammer lane, passin slow aces, that been jackin around too long. then OH SHOOT! There it is! No way of gettin over in time. He chased me down, I was still in the hammer lane, still couldnt get over. Took my permit book and DL, and had me come back to see him. $150 on the spot. OOPS

You know, i sure wish they'd hand out more ticket in Oklahoma, or make the penalty for the ticket twice as much, because whatever they are spending that money on, needs to get finished sooner or later, THEN they can spend the tickets people pay on the fines fixing the roads !!! ;-)

Oh...on a 2nd thought...I was traveling I-380 between CR and Waterloo, Iowa. NB scale was closed, SB wasnt. I had just passed the end of their on ramp, and noticed one truck rolling across the scale, then see another driver passing it. I dont think it is a pre-pass site, and by the time I got to the end of their off ramp, the DOT cop was already in his car, lights a-blazin' and half way down the on-ramp going after the guy. HAHAHAHAH. sucka. ;-)

someone told me those chicken houses have CBs in them. If that is the case, if i ever blow a scale, i'd jump on the CB, tell them I blew it, and was taking the next exit to get turned around. It would still be 50/50 if you got a ticket for blowing it or not.

As far as being in the hammer lane and missing it, if that is your stomping ground, shouldn't a driver know he is coming up on a scale? that being said, would s/he not try passing a parking lot of cars and 'hope' they can get over in time?

why do some drivers have a problem with taking their foot off the 'go' pedal?? If it is some medical problem with your hamstring, i'd go get that checked out. :yes2557::biggrin_25524:

I'd do the right thing. Get off at the next exit and flip it around. Better safe than sorry..and sorry you will be if you get chased down:biggrin_2555:

GA has gotten strict with their enforcement.

If you hold a GA issued CDL, they can suspend your license now. That's for GA CDL holders only though.
