There is obviously two sides to this story. Hate to see something like this happen, but what the heck was she thinking??? I don't care how mad you are, how can you think you are going to stop a truck? To me, sounds like both parties lost control of themselves.

It's hard to imagine that there are people who would stand in front of a Big truck, and possibly out of the Big truck driver's line of vision, but there are.
And the end result is sometimes what the story above reports.

Delbert Degree said he assumed the woman had gotten back in her car and he didn't see her.
    That's believable.

But what I wonder is, why was Delbert leaving while the victim's daughter sought a police officer?
If the situation, no matter who was right or wrong, was thought by either party involved, to be necessary to involve a police officer, ........... I think it would have been the wiser choice for Delbert to remain where he was until the matter was settled, rather than attempt to leave.

Also, if I'm reading the report correctly, the adult daughter of the victim AND her injured mother, followed the Big truck for 20 miles.
That's gotta be around 30 minutes of medical care momma could have received, rather than chasing down a Big truck.
Get the license number, etc. and head for the nearest hospital, ....... is what I think would have been the wiser choice.

Sounds like blind rage took over in this instance.
    And hindsight is 20/20.

    Unfortunate for all involved.

You got the chain of events a little wrong Aftershock. Degree alledgedly cut off the mom and daughter, and drove through some little town speeding. After being cut off, momo and daughter decided to follow him because they were going to the next town, as was he. When he stopped at a dropyard, mom got out to confront him; when things got heated, the daughter joined the battle. Then daughter then decided to go and get the cops, while mom went and stood in front of his truck to 'keep him from leaving'! And the rest we know.

This is a sad story, but it is also a STUPID story, because if those two idiots had just sat in their car, called the cops, or called his company, the mom would still be alive today. My heart goes out to everyone involved in this, because it just won't end well. But it will end, thankfully.

I feel bad for the woman and her daughter but their actions were theirs to make and now they need to be responsible for those actions. At this point its irrelevant who cut off who in traffic, heck every day I get some yahoo that cuts me off, do you see me chasing them 20 miles to have a confrontation? To make matters worse its two women getting up in his face like they own the road.

What this world needs is less stupid people. I honestly think the problem with our society is our medical technology has gotten too good. In the old days the stupid people would do something dumb and they'd die (natural selection at work), but now we save them and they are breeding. I know, I know...I'm a horrible person for thinking such things but the sad reality is its true to some extent.

I actually feel more for the trucker than the women because now he has to live with his conscience because he killed somebody. Intentional or not, it is not something he can change and now he has to live with it for the rest of his days. Lets hope they don't add prison time to his conscience.

I agree with your assessment(s) also, Reby.
Even, to a point, your mentioning how back in the day the gene pool was more, shall we say,....... self-cleaning.
    That and frontier justice.

As this story unfolds, there will be a few lives that will never be the same again. And a life that was ended too soon.
    Tragic.

    And for what?
    Who "won" this round? :biggrin_2558::biggrin_25513:

That's what I was thinkin' too.

He may never have been charged but he is changed by the experience. In this case change isn't good. Forgiveness is the way.

Anything could of happened. Sorry to hear anyone killed in front of big truck..
from foot slip off clutch to murder.

non-big truck people don't know of the dangers. stupidity out weighs common sense.
Don't ever walk/stand feet within front / back of big trucks.

My fault, even other truckers do the same thing.
    Dumb
