417087_2966355243991_1243249386_n.jpg these 2 both came from shelters. The black and brindle was the best dog I ever had or saw and I barely trained him! Lab/mastiff mix. Only ever went after one person that ever came in our yard. Neighborhood teenager that , as it turned out got arrested 2 months later for being a child molester!

An American Bulldog or Rottweiler would most likely have the desired effect and your food bills going to sky rocket as well!

It does not matter what breed dog is.
You just need to have a crazy dog that tried chewing through the window when someone touches it. Size does not equal protection.

Train the dog to attack the persons crotch. That's what the German's did with their guard dogs in WWII at their POW camps.

Should have mauled his ### to death!

But it's better he's in prison....that's one crime that will definitely guarantee you'll be a "woman" on the inside if you choose to be or even if you don't.

If you want the ultimate protection dog. It is the Belgium malinois. ( mal - in-wah). However, they need to be challenged with task that they were trained with. They are very expensive and you would definitely need them professionally trained by a breed expert. A few more truck stops for this breed will be required. HoweverAnd RUN time would be necessary. With all of those caveats, it is without question #1 on the protection/ loyalty list. Amazing dogs. Powerful and incredibly athletic. It will give up its life for you (it's owner) without hesitation. GO to any rest area, park, etc...and you are protected. But common sense in where we do go is first and foremost. If you are in a dangerous area when the clock winds down. DOG be fanned and violate that ELD, until "safer". Then brush up on trip and route planning. Getting back to dogs. While in the military i owned a huge black and tan male dobie named rommel. I now own 2 labs. Yellow male. And a chocolate female. Not much for protection. But I do love my babies!!! I will probably go back to a dobie some day. Looking at purchasing a new KW, or the new NvL 860 globtrotter when I do. It will probably be the dobie as my teammate. But who knows. Dogs are GREAT companions. But it's important to think of their needs first. Also consider the amount of time and work they require. Food, plenty of exercise and water. Dogs, like people also get sick. Diahrea, and vomit are how they most commonly tell you they are under the weather. Best of luck to you on whatever you choose to do. Just think, think, think. Keep your eyes open and use common sense! Take care.

    Get a small crazy dog.

Having a dog in the truck is a pita. I love my dogs but would never take one on the road. Obviously just my opinion. Having a companion is fine but for safety its not really needed. As for a female goes just learn a few techniques for your safety. Bring a 10-12 ft piece of rope and tie your doors shut together. Dont wander out of your truck at night in rest areas. Carry pepper spray with you to and from TS at night if feel concerned. Think about it youre not taking your dog into the Flying J at 1:00am or tying him up outside of a rest stop restroom.

I have to second the lab. She'll even growl if I'm a bit too loud or rough playing with wy daughter. I have no worries when those two are off to exploring in the woods out back or whatever.
