Here are the things I routinely see in the Chicago area:
1) Headlights and other lights clearly NOT working (only one headlight working, for example)
2) Trailers braking with only one trailer wheel out of four
3) Monstrous clouds of black smoke emitted from supposedly "emission" trucks like newer Columbias
All of the above is visible to anyone in their general area and does not require a stop for inspection to be discovered.
The police seems to be lenient enough that these truckers are not scared of being on the road.
I am thankful for this and their pro-business attitude. I hope that it continues.
That said, I wonder how different it is during RoadCheck.
I will deliver two semi loads of scrap myself on Monday.
I have to send a truck out on the 5th. I think that I will at least ask my driver to at least stay off the highways.
RoadCheck for CITY semi trucks? (Chicago)

Back in my Navy days we had wash jobs that were officially called 14 day inspections. And that's what they were. We wash the dirt, grime, salt, and JP off so we can inspect and see if anything is damaged, leaking (you'll always have something somewhere), or broken, so it can be repaired. And then we had post flight (post trip) and preflight (pre trip) inspections that are basically combined into the "turnaround inspection". And while I didn't pop the cab or hood on every gas/pee/food stop, I always checked the load, tires/suspension and anything that might be different from when I picked up the load, to anything I didn't consider "normal" for the driving conditions.

Pretty much right on with that. If you don't care about the inside where you work, why would you care about the outside? Light colored paperwork on the dash is just a calling card to say" LOOK AT MEEEEE......!!! `ichudov Thanks this.

In Chicago one of the worst places is in the cash lanes of the toll roads.
They love to sit and wait as trucks pay their tolls and pick them off. But this also happens any time of the year.
I haven't been bothered once(knock on wood) since jumping back in the truck 7 yrs ago, ichudov Thanks this. -
@slim shady , so you did drive in Chicago during roadchecks? Did you ever get stopped on state routes like North Avenue, Lake, IL-45 etc?
slim shady Thanks this. -
Never been stopped during this blitz thing
Im a local tanker usually placarded but never harrassed.
North ave and Us45 i dont travel.very much. I get bypassed at every scale rarely do they run me thru.
Its a crap shoot, wrong place at the wrong time.
Got a CB? You get a lot of info on where the Boy's are playing aroundichudov Thanks this. -
@slim shady , what CB channel would you suggest? I guess maybe they think that tankers are not worth checking out???
-
Channel 19 on the CB.
They love to pick on tankers, Quite often you'll see only tankers pulled behind the scale house, Happened to me once at I55 Bolingbrook scale, and I got a Clean inspectionichudov Thanks this. -
I have never been checked in a tanker during any kind of blitz, but have been inspected with one on before.
It was actually the only time I have been in our super coupe building and I was surprised to find the inspector was a canadian I knew from the whitehorse Yukon scales. Up until that time I did not know they ever crossed borders.ichudov Thanks this. -
I got pulled over 2 weeks ago on I290 wb near exit 4,Schaumburg.
State trooper pulled me over for no reason,it was 9pm.
He was cool younger guy,did quick level 3 and I was on my way in 10 mins.
I saw them checking truck few times after that,in that same area, same time.
During blitz i saw them checking trucks at harlem ave ramp on I55,
on route 83 in elk grove area, north ave towards west chicago.
Illinois also has their own 72 hours blitz, don’t know when though.slim shady Thanks this.
