Beware of the lies, you WILL be treated poorly. MOTTO: Werner Cares (about their stockholders)

I've had 6 months with Werner and just as long to do some deep thinking of anything truthful that their recruiter might have said to me. I still can't think of anything.

    I was promised:
36 cents per mile. I actually started at 26 cents.. then got tricked into going Western Division for 21 cents per mile, and 15 cents deadhead. I still havent even made it west. Im just doing the same job for less.

    New(er) equipment:
Got almost 500k miles on this beat up 379, and was promised a new truck soon.. was told recently that im stuck with it, no truck trades.

275 hour training program: actually its 300 hours and they will try to extend that saying they have no trucks.. if you dont extend it, you will be placed on a "leave of absence", unpaid until one becomes available.

$375 a week training: actually $250 and your last couple weeks $300 a week

Fuel bonus: only for top percentage of fuel savers.. I will never see one since I drive a 379. Not my choice, I was assigned this truck.

Good Miles: Umm, no. Was averaging 1200 a week until I went western division, now i get around 2500, but at 15-21 cents per mile.

APU units on all trucks: NO.. and they'll ##### about running the truck while you sleep to keep alive on cold nights, they will threaten to fire you and tell you to go sleep in a truck stop lobby instead.

Dispatchers who care: NO.. they dont. most will treat you like scum.

Extra pay for Hasmat: NO, they get the extra money, you wont see a dime.

500 - 550 HP engines: NO, usually C15 435 HP or Detriot 425 will slow you way down.

A job after training: NO. Most students who graduate the 300+ training program are either forced to team or put on a waiting list for a position while on an unpaid leave of absense for weeks or months.

Be careful guys and be choosy, dont make the same mistake I did. I am a safe curteous driver who is 100% on time, don't care about getting home, and love to run hard. I have endorsements for hazmat, tankers, doubles, triples, and am Canada legal. I may be new but I know im worthy of a better company who doesn't take advantage of hard working people like me. I'll put my year in and then its off to greener pastures, unless I can find someone to take me in sooner.

Oh for gods sake already, how many friggin negative werner threads are on here....it's all the same mundane crap over and over and over and over and over and over, etc waaaaaaaaaaaaaah not getting the miles, waaaaaaaah not being treated well, waaaaaaaaah i drive an old crappy truck. Be happy you have a friggin job in this market...there were 700,000 or so in the year 2008 that got laid off in the States, so suck it up and quit being a baby, it's not Werner, it's trucking in general.

Werner does play a large part in it because their recruiters are far from truthful. They take advantage of people who know little to nothing about trucking and may be desperate because of their job situation.
What Werner and others like them do is criminal and should be regarded as such.

Ok OrdinaryGuy, thanks for your reply. You work at corporate, dont you? If not, you should apply for a dispatcher position.

haha actually "Good Buddy" i drive for them, i have for 3 years. Hell, newbies will believe anything a recruiter will say, hell you've only worked for them for what, 6 months and you think you know all about this company? But like i said, this is just like every other negative thread about Werner. Ttry to find something dedicated if you can out West, dedicated fleets are treated alot better, I know i am.

Sounds to me you approve of they do to people and the unexpected resulting impact on the new drivers and their families. Would you enjoy being out 6 months and making less than $300 a week? Would you let your family starve or would you just throw away your brand new $4,500 CDL?

Tough choice, Werner knows that they got you... they own you.. and there's nothing you can do about it while saving your career. If you complain, they will starve you out or find a reason to get rid of you. You can't find another driver job unless you start all over again with training.. you just have to submit to it all and stick it out for a year.

Glad you found a creamy position with Werner OrdinaryGuy, my question to you is why you would stick around for 3 years and dedicate your life to a company who wrecks lives so they can get their $3k tax credit? have you no pride? no shame? you like working for crooks?

For someone who seems to be dandy with Werner, and posts replies such as yours to posts that state true facts about the criminal activities of this company has either got to be a complete idiot or is looking for some corporate position within the company.

There are good, decent, respectable trucking companies out there who will treat you like a human, it's just not Werner.

Lets drop the "Good Buddy" insults before someone ends up with an infraction. I am pretty sure y'all can discuss things without the name calling.

    Thank You!

Zwire, although Werner is not a great company, I'm not so sure you are going to find others any better. Miles aren't there for a lot of people and companies are not spending the money on equipment like they should.

I am not sure what you expect, however, I would suggest maybe finding a local job driving. That could be tough as well as there are a lot of expirenced drivers out of work right now.

Good luck in what you choose.
