Can anyone give me 1st hand experience at the Ottawa yard or company. I was told by AL the recruiter that they are hiring local out of Ottawa,IL doing Kohls freight. Most will be 2 nights out per week, and working 6 days a week.
Paying .36 mile which is kinda low isn't it? (especially if running local)
Orientation is supposed to May 5th in Wi. AL said they would put me in a hotel and pay me $300 for the 3 days, but never told me how I am supposed to get there. Al did tell me not to drive because I will be leaving with a truck. I applied just incase I don't find anything else.
I am not realling looking for a OTR job--
I'm not desperate for a job. I haven't even collected my 1st unemployment check yet.

I live in WI, have talked to a couple driver's. I worked with one, the other was where I was looking for job. BOTH HATED "Kreilkamp". I have no first hand knowledge.
I wouldn't work for them, I think unemployment pays more..... -
Anyone else ?
I am a former yellow guy/CGW. Just incase any others are looking at this position also -
If your in Milwakee....I'd go to Vitran they were hiring a couple weeks ago, or Sutton Transport. There both off 10th & Carpenter, I think it was old Roadway terminal ? I got the my lay-off letter from Roadway 2007, so been there, at UPS now. But went from full to part-time this year. One of the guys from big R started at Sutton a couple weeks ago. And he doesn't hate it yet, I think. Money not good......

I would love that job...the Kohl's job out of Ottawa is all drop and hook...and their trucks are great. I tried to get on there because I live close to Ottawa but I have no recent experience in a Semi-tractor. I have been driving my own tandem dump for the last 2 years so my previous experience was no good. I would go with them. I worked down by the Kohl's last year doing the road construction. Home 2 days is a good thing in this ecomony.

But do you know any of the drivers working for them out of the ottawa yard ? The recruiter told me .36 to run local , Not going to make much money I wouldn't think?
After thinking awhile, I am assuming that it will be 10 off and back at it
no home time whatsoever. Also thinking that if you get back in the yard and have an hour or 2 left of available hours they will dipatch you back out and tell you to go to bed where you end up.
Do you see daycabs coming out of the Kohls DC or all road units?
I really have the jitters about hiring on to a OTR company. -
Well in all honesty it was always road units. This is a new Kohl's warehouse with new WIDE roads. Also their truck are all auto-shift which I have never driven. I personally like the clutch in bad weather (if I get caught out in it).
Then I like the idea of a small company to work for.
I would try to find a Krielkamp at a truck stop and ask the driver how they like themm. -
Please do. Make sure they are dedicated out of the Ottawa yard.
Ask them about Pay, miles, hours, days off, equipment, company in whole, back charges, dispatchers and on and on.
Like I said before I am supposed to be hired on as local according to thier ad
Thank you very muchLast edited by a moderator: Apr 13, 2009

I have 2 friends that worked out of the Ottawa yard. They said the money is not really great, but it is a local job so the money isn't going to be OTR money. The trucks are always in great shape and they run electronic logs. The only problems they every had were from the dispatcher having load schedules screwed up. They were home every night with very few exceptions. I am thinking about calling Al myself to see if i could get on there.

I wouldn't do it !!!! I went up there for orientation for the Kohls/Ottawa job, and it was alot of BS!! Mileage went from a solid 36 cpm plus bonuses to 31cpm to start and they want you to buy all kinds of crap from them for the job!
That Guy AL lied to us bigtime to get us there, and changed everything onmce we were there! 2 other guys and I left the day before orientation was complete, because of the BS. Al had the balls to add to my DAC that I QUIT and couldn't be rehired. I never was issued any equipment and any materials they gave me I left in thier offices.
Baaaaaaad Company!!!
I caught on with nestle out of Dekalb not long after that. NO E-logs but they are coming very soon. Home almost every night. they start at 40cpm for anything over 200 miles from Dekalb, and everything else pays hourly, which starts at $17hr I think. Even the guys who run the road are home usually 1 night a week plus the weekends. Equpiment is good and not a #### automatic either. Once we get the E logs they will need to add more drivers to cover what we once paper logged. I have been here just over 18 months and am at thier top rate. There are VERY FEW weeks that I make less than $1100. My average week is about $1300 before taxes.
