    Exactly.
Back around 1998 I heard the VP of Werner say that there is a huge number of potential truck drivers but most are afraid of the transmissions. Thus the push for automatics.

i had to sub in city last week because it's busy and we're short drivers.

OK i WILL admit that it did ok for city work. This is the Volvo "I-drive", so i don't know if that is a rebranded eaton or ???

i guess backing a 45 or even a 28 pup does not require as much precision as a very short converter dolly. Thus, i could back smoother with a trailer; It did ok----pretty much coasted smoothly when i wanted it to.

Some automated transmissions can do ok for city work.

However, i still DON'T think an automated manual is a good idea and remain unconvinced that it is a good idea.

I have been in the new auto for about 2 months. It is its own animal.

I have finally stopped stomping the clutch that isnt there and almost falling out of my seat reaching for the floor shifter...

You cannot beat the tranny in mpg's i noticed that on day one.

Yes it wants to up shift early and its slow as hell... i hate it. But... thats where the mpg's come from... low rpm torque to move the load instead of higher rpm hp and faster.

The tranny makes for a longer day... but i do like the gear spread and spend a lot of time in the rolling hills manually downshifting to maintain momentum. Its more work but it is what it is...

I havent had the backing issues at all. I have always backed slowly. It just gives me more time for small adjustments and not needing to pull forward. The only time i touch the pedal hooking is if somebody has low dropped a loaded trailer and i need a little more umph to lift the load and get under it.
Generally it just creeps under with minimal friction and latches up.

The jake seems much stronger than on the 2015 i turned in but its also a pain in the butt. I haul liquid and having the jakes on with an auto that downshifts when it wants too instead of when i need it to seems almost dangerous. Am hoping by next winter i get that sorted out.

It seems more related to me than the tranny. I use a lot more break going into corners than i used to. This simply to avoid the slamming the fluid around.

I dont know, after 2 months, if i will eventually relearn all of the instincts it took a dacade to develop but i hope its better in another few months of playing with it.

dont go by what the dash display indicates for mpg, yes more likely gets better mpg, some of that is due to being a newer truck. I have learned what saving is gained in improved mpg, is all evaporated and then some the first time the shift box craps out. You better hope your boss/owner has a good tow company on speed dial, your gonna need it.

Drove a FL DD/ auto with a jumpy touchy reverse. Helped to put it in Manual mode and then Reverse.

Mpg typically gets better after break-in. Mine isnt even broken in and is getting better mileage than the 2015 it replaced.

So... you say i shouldnt go by the dash display??? For figuring fuel mileage???

Ohhh ####... i never thought about that...

Next you will tell me i am not getting paid for all my miles either...

Its almost like i should have a piece of paper and maybe a calculator or a smart phone maybe... or someway of recording stuff and doing some math. Ouch math hurts...

As for my boss having the tow company on speed dial??? You mean freightliner right? Because its new and has a new extended warranty...

More worried about the def system in 475,000 miles. Btw... this one does drink about a third more def.

Still... loving the disc brakes though... atleast until all the towing starts.
