It seems like you tell some great stories, but it doesn't flow together with the terminology well. I am just saying, I am pretty sure if you articulated it that it would be a great read!

Where I drive, emergency stops is rare, emergency misses is much more common. The roads are narrow and dirt for the most part, lots of blind curves and hills that will hide a truck you are meeting till it is within a few yards of you.
The company I haul freight has had a kid following me the last couple of trips. They call it training, but it is more just showing him the danger points of the road. There are several hills that you need to know where you are at and slowdown to a crawl on top and even part way down, long enough to make sure no one is already coming down the other side or coming up this side before you make a run for the bottom, you do not want to meet another truck at all on them. so basically trying to teach him the worst parts of the road while he is riding on dirt, because once winter hits, there is no stopping, you have to be prepared to take to the trees, ditch , or what ever if, you start off a hill and round a bend or go over a hump and find a truck spun out blocking your way.

It used to be that everyone called out before they started of a hill, but that seems to have faded a lot over the last few years, to the point that even the old hands on the road, doesn't so much anymore, except for just the worst ones.
