I called last friday and they said they were still on a freeze. I have a feeling its not letting up anytime soon.
-
...several months ago. They still have the training staff in place for when work picks back up enough to justify taking in recruits. This past week was pretty slow for me, so I don't think it will be happening this month, but I'm just a driver so what do I know. Anyway, my suggestion for anyone wishing to hire on with McElroy would be to submit an application now, and then when they crank back up, you will be qued up in line to be called in. Just a suggestion. Best wishes!

been calling my recuriter once a week for the past 3 weeks she told me friday that my application has been but on hold until freight picks back up, has anyone been told this to by mcelroy?
-
McElroy is not hiring "students", but they ARE hiring experienced drivers in some states.
"$2,000 sign on bonus for experienced flatbed drivers in Texas." and "Now hiring in Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, North Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, parts of Virginia and Maryland. Sign on Bonus for drivers with 6 months of verifiable flatbed in the last 2 years. Business is booming. Horay!"
That was as of the past Tuesday. I just got home and have to leave Sunday morning, so I can verify that freight is up

I just spoke with Mcelroy and they told me they ARE hiring students. I have been out of a truck for extended time so am "retraining" now and live 30 miles from Pleasant hill NC so at this time will be aiming in that direction unless something "neater" comes along.
I am a little concerned about some information in here I've read but thanks to posts by others have ruled out 1. CR ENGLAND 2. Werner and 3. cr England AND Werner. Only downsides are NY. I learned to drive up north and have NO desire to drive a govonered truck in NY UHUH! ( and tarping with no compensation) But, things change. -
I am not in "the office", I am simply a driver who knows what I am told, what I hear and see, and what I read on my company's web page and "facebook" account. I can tell you with absolute confidence that they have removed all but one of the "trainer trucks" from the driver-trainers based out of the Pleasant Hill terminal (which is MY terminal). So, they are no longer offering the same rigorous training that I and others endured in the past. They ARE, however, doing driver-training in Hagerstown, MD, but my understanding is that you must live within 50 miles of Hagerstown for that.
So, I wonder how they will train a student to drive over-the-road for 3 to 4 weeks in a truck that only has one bed in it unless they only take one student at a time out of Pleasant Hill? I will ask the Trainer I know that has the only double bed sleeper truck in the local fleet when I see him this Sunday
ironhand Thanks this. -
Wondering why this is in the Bad company thread? Anyway, If they put a student with a trainer in a truck with a single bunk, then one would have to believe that your going to be in a hotel at night, or the trainer will while the student "acclomates" themselves to sleeping in the truck.
-
...read the thread from the first post to understand why it it is this particular forum. Also, you would have to believe in the Tooth Fairy to believe that any trucking company would pay for a Hotel Room for a newbie in "over-the-road" driver training LOL! The McElroy I know and work for says you stay in the "red roof inn" (the truck) unless your truck is broken down and in the shop. Most of the current fleet is still under International's warranty, so trainees would only be in a hotel under dire circumstances.
-
If they put a trainee and trainer togather in a truck with one bunk, they would really have no choice, actually the trainer would get the room. I've seen it done, not with this perticular company, but in fact when I was training, I slept in the truck, and my trainer slept in the motel.
There again, the argument will be made the company will run them like a team. mabe so. Never worked for McElroy.
ironhand Thanks this.
