If you want to drive a truck and need to support your family or need money then forget this industry.

If money is not a issue and you don't mind working for peanuts then go for it. Just find a way to pay for your CDL other than a company paid training program. And be prepared to not work for weeks on end.

That post ought to be a sticky in the driving schools forum . But to work for peanuts you have to get a job first and many wannabes never accomplish that . Just remember looking at DOL statistics regarding unemployment in the trucking industry . That doesn't include all the trucking school graduates that never got a job . They aren't unemployed from the trucking industry .

still wondering why the government is paying to train new drivers (w.i.p.)... ? i was at the workforce development center today, i needed to register for programs available. the guy notices that i have a class A cdl and asks if i want to go through a truck school refresher.... i was like "hell no" , do you know what is going on in that industry ? needless to say, i am going back to college with that program as soon as i pass the exam.... entering the criminal justice field with an emphasis on the transportation industry :)

Why do you care?? I've got a good friend who just graduated, went to work and enjoys his job. Making decent miles and money too. Just wonder why you are always so negative about new drivers? Is it really any of your business?

Thats one person out of hundreds that made it. Most don't and thats just how it is. Your friend is one of the lucky ones.

Maybe I just hate to see people with families to support dishing out thousands of dollars to ripoff schools or going to a training carrier and a few months later ending up with a bad DAC and a $3,000 bill for training . And yes , it is my business when I have to share the road with a constant turnover of newbies with half azzed training that don't last 6 months .

So do you really think your negative posts are going to keep someone from going to school and work? I really doubt it. I'm not trying to ruffle your feathers but constructive criticism may be more effective than constant negative browbeating of every newbie on here. Most have chosen their path already.

I think what Gashauler is trying to let new guys know is if you have a job that is paying your bills now, becoming a truck driver to make more money is not a very good move. Iam a trainer for a big company and i would have to say 80-85% of my student drivers don't make it out of training, and the few that do, are gone after the first 2 months on there own. The main reason for the stundent drivers that quit after training, they can make more money doing other jobs and be home every night. I have had 10 student drivers, and none are driving trucks as of right now, i talk to all of them. so this is a fact. Rick G is right, he and most of us do not want to see any family man ruin his family for chump change. Sometimes, and not very much, a new guy can land a great job trucking. I thank God everyday i got hooked up with the guy i drive for, because if not, i would have not lasted very long with a big company. So don't take it to hard, these are 2 men that have been doing this job for a very long time, and if you have seen what they have seen, you would have a better understanding of there views, i know because my father did it for almost 40 years, i had very good idea of what i was getting into. Most people don't have that kind of person to talk to before making the jump into trucking. Goodluck
