One dead, and one will be permanently scarred...
GAPrincess Thanks this. -
No doubt. It's going to be hard for that dude to get behind the wheel of anything for a while at least.

I do not understand WHY this guy was walking behind a truck which was backing up??? As a truck driver himself, he had to have known the driver could not possibly have seen him. Sad situation. My prayers go out to everybody involved, including their families.

that is sad! i wish i had my first students number so he could read this. i warned him REPEATEDLY about walking across truckstop parking lots ETC looking down at his #### feet!!
drivers, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS be as aware of your surroundings while walking around out htereLast edited: Oct 24, 2008
Faber Thanks this. -
Part of the problem is that we all think that this will never happen to us...Be aware of all going on around you.. My thoughts and prayers go out to both families.

I just don't understand how people can be so preoccupied that they live in "condition green" most of the time. You need to be aware of what is going on around you, whether behind the wheel or on foot.
Oh yeah, put the #### cell phone away when you are driving, or walking across anyplace that has vehicular access!panhandlepat Thanks this. -
I am simply a trucker's wife, who happens to hang out in truckstops with my hubby quite often. And even I know to watch everything. I have only had one near miss in all my travels....

late post but i just wanted to know either how fast dude was backing up or how ungodly slow the other guy was walking to have this happen. it is a sad thing
