Here is another tip i was told.....it kinda works. You pull off at a rest area, take a few minutes to walk around your truck, etc....but when you get back in...pull out your bag of clothes, and put on a fresh clean pair of socks. It is amazing what fresh socks will do for your subconcious.
-
And for your codriver.

Drivers are allowed to say I feel to tired to drive I need to rest 5 hours and the company must allow you to stop. Now can they give you a service failure in some cases yes, but I would say if it doesn't happen often you would be ok in most cases. -
most however do not

This attitude is why so many new hands struggle in the trucking business. YOU CANT act this way and expect results of a positive nature.
Personally I would fire you if you pulled such a stunt
in one of my trucks.
I'm not saying everyones has to be a member of the "72 Hr Club" but by gaawd you better make good use of your "EXCESSIVE" 10 Hr Break.
If you come off "break" and cant run 450 miles without opening that left door you have serious issues coming in your future as a driver.
You DO NOT NEED to stop at a truck stop to "cool a tire"
yes even the "real"ladies know there are available provisions to accommodate the task without loosing 45 min of roll time by hitting the Pilot*
Yes there are times when even the best cant seem to shake the "nap" its up to the individual to learn what works for them when it comes to pushing thru the "wall"
Long before energy drinks it was coffee at the diner or 5 Bayer aspirin and a Coke.
Either way its a "must do" and not being a crybaby with a QalCom

Dang Tater, I bet you just started a s###storm now! I love to shout out when passing the truckstops..."Hey look at all them guys driving a truckstop!"
-
I find that chewing gum does wonders. I can be really sleepy but as long
as I chew gum I'm wide awake. -
So let me ask you Tater, would you rather have a driver who has a legitimate problem just "suck it up" and keep driving? Is it worth losing the truck and the load, and possibly killing someone?
I agree that a driver that "pulls that stuff" on a regular basis needs to have the tin can tied to his tail. But there are legitimate reasons that a person may need to stop for safety.
