Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

Classic case of "it's not one world".

When I grew up in The Netherlands, kids WERE getting nailed by cars. My route to grade school (and kindergarten, for that matter) was 2 miles of country road, and we were riding our bikes pre-dawn to school. There was a little generator that you could put against your tire, and that would power the lights. It made it harder to peddle, so we wouldn't use the lights... Once in a while, a kid would get sacrificed to the automobile, and there would be gnashing of teeth and wailing.

Kids are kids. You can educate what you will, but they have imperfect impulse control. They do stupid things.

So then there came mandatory reflectors on the rear, and that helped a LOT. Big, red, 3"x 7" squares that were pretty darn bright. Then came bike paths.

It's not one world. The part that Americans don't get is that the bicycle is not a recreational thing, it is THE form of transportation for sub-adults. Some kids ride trains or buses to school, but the vast, vast, VAST majority ride their bikes. To school, to soccer practice, to the soccer game. In many cases, like where I grew up, there IS not back road, because you are on the only road. Kids will be on bikes on those roads. And those kids WILL make mistakes.

Like the ICC bumper, side bar protection makes some sense, and when combined with aero side skirts, should be a very minor expense.

I vaguely remembered the trucks. Not the actors.

That Scania is a 6*4 which makes me suspect it is a heavy hauler.

Where I live, as soon as the bike becomes a recreational thing, that's when the biggest problems start.

Large groups of cyclists..... all thinking they are Greg Lemond or Lance Armstrong
