I doubt it was misaligned. For starters I'd doubt they'd have been able to get the v-band clamp on it. Second, the damage is on the nose of the compressor wheel. If the housing was misaligned, you'd most likely see damage further back on the fins. It looks like something got pulled into the turbo.

I wouldn’t let that shop do anything else. If they find something do you think they will own up to it or say nope it’s all good?
I blew a turbo under load on my e-model. It embedded fragments in the right air filter and blew pieces all the way to the left filter.
I’d want to take all the piping apart and look for myself to be sure nothing was in there.

    Agree^^^^^
If cover was misaligned that bad the comp wheel would jam tight and not even turn. That damage is from a hard metallic object going through the compressor when wheel was already spinning. Those guys owe you a turbo and be firm , dont let them get away with saying it broke on its own

I'd be worried about where the debris from that damage went.

Swaan" thank you for your time to help finding out what really happened to my turbo. Only option now to prove that they did it is to take to a CAT dealer and they come with an statement on the cause. Would you suggest anything else what I could use in my defense that this was their fault ?

You are completely right about the all broked missed pieces from the blades. They all are inside somewhere. That all is my mistake that I let someone I dont know to work on my truck. Looked to be an easy repair "just a hose" simple right?, and it turned to be a complete mess.

It really sucks that we have to learn these lessons like that. You aren't alone and it DOES happen to the best of them.

Well in your defense tell them the truck was running perfectly fine when you brought it in there for a couple hoses to be changed out. Turbo chargers dont just self destruct at an idle unless someone put something through it.

It's going to be tuff but if the shop had any good faith at all they would own up to there mistake and re/re your turbo. People do make mistakes after all, it's what they do after the fact that matters, and putting the blame on something else when they know dam right what happened is just flat out wrong. Good luck my friend and stand up for your self. Be adamant it is there fault.!

Have it towed out of there, take it to CAT and get it repaired and settle it with a lawyer

Yes have it towed, do not take anything off the truck, once it is removed, it can be claimed it wasn't on the truck and they are not responsible, keep it intact, and let cat figure it out, more likely need a cac also.
