Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

Left home thursday afternoon, saturday re-loaded in Osnabruck (Germany), tomorrow around 8:00 am should be unloading 1st place. Around 2600 km one way.

 

Cameras break or stop working for many reasons. Everything from wiring problems to an issue with the canera or dispay panel. A mirror is good enough to see the sides of the truck and if it breaks from a rock theni pull over at the first wide spot and 2 minutes with a 7/16th wrench I've got a new one installed. With a camera I'd have to get to a dealer which could be several hundred miles or even over a thousand miles away and then wait for up to a week for them to fix it.

Obviously i don't think a camera system is going to have problems often, but even once is to many considering how difficult it couple be to get it fixed if im in a remote location.

I don't go to those type of locations often anymore but i have been so far out that its 800+ miles just to a fuel station, let alone a repair facility.

 

this is why i am confused, in FR they give you GVW by wheelbase not by number of axles or something else, so you will find many 6x4 tractors with 3900mm wb, i have seen even some 4200mm and not many 8x4

in italy all are 3100, scania offers now 200mm reduced wheelbase by s-order

 

this is not natural price change, you can reduce price for like 500-1000€, max 2000 if truck is very problematic like old tacho till this friday., everything over that means they have tried to overcharge you which i find impossible as there is too much competition and truck prices in PL already very low comparing to other countries. if there is a 6-7k € difference that means dealer dont know how to do business as this is few times above its regular net income on tractor. if you get into problems and you are not able to sell tractor.
register it on your own needs. over time depreciation and tax system will reduce its value on paper and sell it as used to other country. you can use it as demo truck or replacement truck, rent it....do whatever you can except sell it under price, it is not important how much do you lose on this truck, it is important to keep stable prices.

i guess you had a luck and never been involved in serious accident?

father of my friend had 3 people who had died under his wheels in last 15years, it was not his fault in any accident.
we were on drink last week as he was passing close to my house, he made 45min pause and show me his new scania v8. he says his father is still not good altrough that happened 8months ago, but he started to drive now as they bought one more truck. he did not want to repair his scania which was involved in crash, it was his truck not leasing so...

 

fyi mercedes now put camera instead of main 4 mirrors as serial equipment, kerb and front mirror is still normal.
we can connect additional 4 cameras on system, one customer just order that for heavy haulage

 

To me thats insane. Cameras in addition to mirrors, fine, i think its an unnecessary expense but if someone else wants them have at it. But to replace mirrors with cameras is just ludicrous imo.

 

well MB did that breakthrough, that require some balls, they did some serious calculation about warranty etc.
you can get mirrors if you want, so far all orders are with camera system. in next several years truck industry and trucks will change from foundation and trucks will be semi/autonomous, computer can see only on camera...btw MB offer semi autonomous drive on truck as optional equipment
