I own a small construction company and I know enough about the taxes and bookkeeping. I also have the money. I know it will be hard stating off getting business but I will survive.

You might look into the insurance aspect, you might not be insurable without experience, or it will be VERY expensive.

    just a thought.

If you go through the manual a few times and then focus on the Pre-Trip Inspection and Air-Brake Test sections you should do fine. For the Pre-Trip section they are looking to see that you know the basic components and that you use certain keywords and phrases (working properly, securely mounted...). The Air-Brake Test is the most critical part. If you forget ANY part of it you fail the ENTIRE Pre-Trip. It's only 6-7 steps so it's not impossibly long just important.

Some schools not only offer weekend classes, but will also let you use their equipment for the test. The school I'm at here in MO charges # $200 to use their stuff.

You also might post a thread asking about a specific type of material hauling. I can guarantee that there are numerous rock-haulers and log-haulers on here that might be able to answer any of your area specific questions.
