I am also curious about this. I've been thinking about buying a police scanner myself... any suggestions on a good one for a decent price? possibly one that frequents ebay often?

I have a BCD996T made by uniden its a digital scanner works for most digital systems. Its gps based as well (what this means is you hook up one of those old gps's like a garmin V to it and it only scans the channels based on the radius you select I use a 30 mile radius all this does is only activate the channels within a 30 mile radius of your location great for truckin) I have several states programmed into it like Mi, ohio, Ind, Ky etc. Also alot of Canadian agencies as well. Love it never have to switch from state to state the gps does it all. Anything under 150.00 will not do what you want it to you won't get any digital stuff most law enforcement agencies are digital now. Be prepared to spend 400 US for it but well worth it you get alot of info you won't get on CB for sure. I don't think I can give the URL where to buy but here's a hint this is where I bought mine they ship US and Canada. Google master. If you have trouble PM me I'll give anyone the info needed. I have had different scanners in my truck in the last 26 yrs and this one is for truckers

You will also want to check the laws for your area--particularly if you will be trucking in the US. Some states prohibit the installation of mobile scanners and will seize your expensive investment as well as FINE you for having it! I have to wonder what such states have to HIDE since many states, OTH, don't have such jackbooted laws!!!!! New York, Indiana, "Noo Joisey" are states to watch. The "scanner laws" can be found on the internet.

I just looked it up and most states allow it. Except for your general laws regarding it being illegal to sell, buy or mod a radio to get the wireless telephone freqs or using it to help in the commitment of a crime. As long as you dont do any of those you should be fine.

Do you know if the GPS will work with the COPilot Program on a lap top?

Soon, everything will be Digital so whatever scanner you buy now, wont work like you would like it to.
The Digial ones run around $500, handheld or mobile.

I have one of the Radio Shaft PRO 164's right now, works great. I will be purchasing a Digital one soon as everyone around me is going Digital by Jan 2010.
