Parking the galaxy and going handheld. Any advice on which one brand to get? Can they be MODED? Mostly going to use for shippers receivers and break checks.

I see alot of city hands running them so there must be something to them.
See alot of trainers using them while backing in truck stops.
Any radio can be tuned out past the 4 watt key,so I dont think it would be that big of a deal to increase the modulation on a walkie-talkie. Receive on the other hand will still be limited due to antenna restriction. -
ya might to be able to find an older realistic trc-216 on the net. It has a jack for an external mic and antenna. I have one and it works just as good as any stock radio
-
I have been seriously eyeballing this one.
It has everything anyone one want in a handheld that might work well for this or even slip seating.
This is from Dougs place Custom CB radios (google it). I wonder if he might beable to boost the carrier on it also. -
Boost the carrier? I can promise you this radio uses tiny surface mount components. and probably several IC chips.
You really shouldn't let anyone touch your radios..also these look really nice because you can use them with a mag mount.
