To: Bowtiecartel36, thanks for the info and the laugh, any time I see a company called Acme, I think of WildE Cyotee.
To: 112racing, that is some of the best insight I have gotten on this. Thanks.
Are there any decent companies who will sign me on with an older truck?

O.K Guys, "MedicineMan, RickG", etc. I have found an older 95 Ken that I like, It is only in the 18K range, but I know the guy who is selling it is retireing. This is a little older and cheaper than I was originally looking for, but I like the truck but it has been well maintained. I have a 92 FreightShaker to trade in and will pay cash for the rest. I like this because it has a 500Hp motor and 18 Sp, so when I start to do heavy hauling I can use it. Remember I have lots of driving experience, but most with in the "100 mile area", and only as part of my own construction company/or with the military hauling tanks and D6 Dozers. I did drive for someone befor I went to Afghanistan, but only for 3 months (so I have three months worth of log books to prove it). So I am gona have to find someone who will sign me on considering these factors (so that eliminates Landstar for now). Is a 95 toooooo old? Will I be making it harder on myself with this truck, or should I get something in the 98 to 99 range. I am not worried about the Insurance, as I have had it with Progressive (5yr)for long enought they know I am an experienced driver. I like the lower $ truck as a starter, the motor has about 500K on an in frame. Any opionions? or suggestions?

I don't think it's too old but look at the source. lol
Have you looked at Mercer? or fikes? I'm not sure of there requirements
Since you have money to buy the truck and insurance have you considered geting your own authority? -
Yea, I have several friends who are O/O's and used to run under their own authority, but when times got bad, they went to a local company hauling parts for the Toyota plant here in Ky. I have considered getting my own authority, my brother had his for 5 years and had 5 trucks. But it just seems like a big leap for a guy who is initially going to to O/O full time. But I am not afraid to do it, just not sure about getting the loads. Thanks for the input!

I have a good friend leased to Schneider in there van division payed on mileage, and says it's the easiest job he's ever had. He's been driving 34 yrs.Says he's netting around 2000 a week and running during daylight hours. That's what he was looking for.He stays out 8 to 10 days then comes home for 3 or so.He's running a 2000 classic. They inspected it and found a little slack in his 5th wheel and rebuilt it for $400 when he leased on.Everything else was good.

working for schneiders mileage lease you may as well be a company driver. FOrced dispatch, bunch of delivering loads that teams relayed, runs with too much time on them. no thanks. most people become owner operators to get away from that. they sure don't do it for the money

there might be some truth to that,i have often said the same thing????
-
poptop, i believe this to be the case look at the new trucks they seem to be in the shop as much as on the road i know my 2000 shaker is more reliable than these new ones and gets better mileage to boot!!!!!
-
Well guys, you have convinced me. My friend who I bought the 92 freightshaker from also suggested to fix a few things, trade it in for a slightly newer truck, with the HP and Speeds I wanted, and go for it.
My wife is a Physcholigist and makes pretty good money. She diagnosed me and said I was sane, and if I would give her the X-Terra she would take care of our one bill (the Mortgage). So I am shoping for a truck. Filed for my own authority, Will keep you informed. Pehaps we can have a cup somewhere some day.
Yep I am staying in the 98 to 2001 with less than 500K on a rebuild. I agree the older trucks if well maintained are just as good, perhaps even better.
Thanks. -
Good luck drivaaa!!!!
