I don't know maybe we're just crazy down here in Texas but thats the way its done here all the time, Its called OLD SCHOOL. It goes back to helping a fellow trucker out if you can and trust me when I say its not near as crazy as you might think (at least not down here)

Proper CDL school is an oxymoron . They shamelessly take money from desperate people to get them a CDL that could prove to be useless . The schools don't reject anyone but many of their graduates get rejected by trainers . I agree with PAJ1979 100% . Companies that hire CDL school graduates are carriers to avoid . The pay is on 1970's level and they'll terminate you in a heartbeat .

"Companies that hire CDL school graduates are carriers to avoid"

Carriers for who to avoid driver? Try to keep in mind what forum you are in, "questions from new drivers" I think CDL school graduates would fall into that category. If New Drivers avoid companies that hire CDL school gradutes, they are basically avoiding every company who is willing to hire them. Where would you suggest they go?

Go ahead, give me the typical negative answer.... Suggest that they stay home.

These guys don't want to hear that option.

That's right it's "Questions From New Drivers " not "Questions from Wannabes " CDL school graduates are NOT drivers . Carriers will tell them that when they haven't found a job months after graduation time . Fork over more money for a refresher course . The best thing that could happen to the industry is for all schools to shut down for the rest of the year . There is nothing positive about getting a job that pays $.22 a mile and can't give you 2,000 miles a week .

Right...ALL schools are a waste of money? You'd rather have someone just wing it and get a CDL that way? Look at all the complaints on the forum about drivers that went to schools and still can't drive. I don't agree that skipping school is the best way to go. I recommend choosing a GOOD school to go to. One that doesn't guarantee you a job. One that gives you all the information you need to know to pass the CDL exam, but doesn't guarantee that you will.

I enjoy my experience at my GOOD school. They don't sugar coat what it's like on the road. They pass on their knowledge and hope that's enough to make you successful.

If you want to try getting your CDL without a school then good luck to you, but I still recommend a proper school...

When you get a job and hold it six months then I'll listen to you say what a good investment your school was . Until then your posts are just speculation on the worthiness of a school . I've said before the employers I've had only hired 1 graduate . He didn't last because he wasn't a driver .

I went to Sage Technical in Henderson CO. Hired onto Prime. Went through their in-service training, and have driven for them for 2 years now. CDL school? IMO, it was a good investment.

For some it might be, but the cdl schools won't tell any new student, that if you have a criminal record your chances of getting a job are slim to none. All they want is you in the door, and to collect the money for training you.. To me that is a waste of money, when that person could use it for something else...
