Terrible situation. Given the orientation of vehicles it looks like a head-on; the truck was trying to pass and drove into the bikes?

One reason I don't do group rides. When I'm riding with friends it's: "Here we are. I'll meet you there. Ride carefully. See you."

Wish the reporting stated what the troopers thought as to why the collision occured.

23 year old kid driving that Dodge Ram. I wonder if there was a possible mechanical issue.
Motorcyclists must’ve been on their way to Bear Notch Rd when the accident occurred.

There's a fair amount of talk around here on exactly that possibility, but the investigation is still underway.

As clausland referenced, the company that driver was working for doesn't exactly have a clean SMS record over the last two years: WESTFIELD TRANSPORT INC -- USDOT # 2896429. Check it out at Safety Measurement System - Complete SMS Profile (U.S. DOT# 2896429) but it's important to note that the driver not currently facing any charges as per several media reports.

i'm thinking, 23 year old kid, running fast to get to his destination. lost control or was texting, or on the cell phone.

this one caught my eye real quick

392.2-ML ...Failure to Maintain Lane ...2 ...0 .......5 Unsafe Driving

that almost alludes to texting/cell phone while driving.

Moving Forward and Lepton1 Thank this.

    Just terrible-

So,If it's found that he was texting,or making a phone call....Will he be treated the same way the Colorado Downhill Freewheeler was?

This guy killed 7 bikers- Downhill racer only killed 4. (Not defending either party here)

    Both in their early 20's.

    D.Tibbitt, rud1, Bud A. and 2 others Thank this.
