Is it just auto bumping to 900rpm for the 30mins?

My '12 would do that too, but it's not a full regen. It's one of 2 things, but is almost impossible to tell which. It does either net 0, or net reduction.

Net 0 is an attempt to not add any more particulate matter to the dpf while at idle.

Net reduction is a soft regen to begin trying to burn off what particles have accumulated while sitting stationary.

Mine also had a major problem with fuel dilution even changing the oil every 5-6000 miles & never idling a single overnight. Mine was the last year of just egr, dpf & no def.

If your going to idle all night, just high idle. 1100rpm is what you want for the 6.7 cummins. Lower rpm you'll clog up the egr, slobber, or wet stack, & pack your dpf sooner. Is an extra gallon or 2 of diesel throughout the night worth that..? Why risk it? You'll have enough expenses come your way, don't bring on more..

    Just my 2cents.. :book:

I just saw one called "zero breeze". Kind of pricey but the smallest one I've seen so far with an actual compressor, & freon. I believe a bit larger one is in the works called the mark II from the same company..

The Regen bumps up to like 1200 rpm

If you're not idling at 900-1000 rpm you're hurting your engine, it's not made to lug like that for hours on end.

$1200 with the battery and the battery gives you 3-5 hours of operation + $350 for every additional battery you might want. Also, wake up every 3-5 hours to swap the battery.
I think I'd take the risk and just high idle my truck when I need the A/C and eat any repair or early maintenance bill that might come my way.

If you’re handy you could rig up a home window unit to pull in and out of one of the windows. You’d have to make some kind of removable frame to hold it and keep it sealed and all that, but I’m sure people have done it. If it’s a small enough unit you could probably run it on a little 2000 watt generator. Or you could go bigger and just get an RV rooftop unit installed. That’d be pemenant though.

Yeah, it's pretty pricey. I saw it on amazon for about 8 hundy. Then you can get the diy power cord (more $) to rig up your own battery. A single deep cycle marine might run it all night,? Run that to disconnect switch so it won't kill your starters, & will charge back up throughout the day..

This dude Greg had a nice little 2.5k btu dog house ac by climate right. Mount on the catwalk behind bunk or cab. Then it pipes in with a suction & discharge hose. Ran off a little Honda 2k watt. I liked that setup a lot.

I'm sweat'n it out with my fan in Latta, SC right now.. o_O

I have a pre-emission motor but still don't like idling during the summer to stay cool. Something about it just seems screwy to me. In cold weather sure, makes sense. Engine makes heat. I need heat.

Sometimes it gets uncomfortably hot. I wait till way later after the sun goes down and take a shower before bed. Then I'll blast the A/C for 10-15 minutes to cool off and shut it down and sleep for a few hours before it becomes intolerable. rinse and repeat until wakey time. Not the greatest night of sleep but it works.

that would have been the day i continually got up, started the truck, turned on the a/c, the shut off the truck...

what purpose does it serve to wake up out of a sound sleep?

i ran those engines for either heat or a/c...you know, "driver comfort"....

if the company did not want me to run those engines? then they should have provided me a "pony pac or genset", precursers to today's APU units.

run that engine. maybe invest in a secondary electrical radiator cooling fan?

watch your idling hours, as you "might" have to do an extra oil/filter change or 2.

then there is this, watch the video

    and this

I wake up once or twice anyway so its not that big of a deal. You get a little stingy about it when you're paying the fuel and repair bills.

On the big trucks the espar heaters and key off AC systems like the Freightliner SmartPark are the cats meow for staying comfty and stingy at the same time.
