Yeah i don't think anyone monitors ch 9 anymore. Last I tried using it was when a tornado was tearing thru town. No response. Others have said the same thing. Now why all these new CB's still have ch 9 button on them is beyond me.
But for that matter I don't think cops run cb's in their cars anymore. -
I had a cop here in PA tell me that in order for him to respond, he has to be dispatched. I questioned him on this, and asked, what if you just saw a crime happen? He told me that before he could respond to the call, he would be obligated to notify the dispatch center himself, and get clearance to respond.
So this tells me that, they don't care. At least they don't care to listen to the public for this stuff. I was told by him that if I see a stranded motorist, to call 911 and report the location, and then they would send someone that way. If I just happened to stop and tell a cop about it, it's his choice whether to go and assist or not.
It makes sense, but all the time I see cops pull people over without first being dispatched to do so. . . . -
I have seen the highway patrol with antennas that look like there for the cb, but i have never used the cb to find out if they actually have the radio turned on
-
rest assured that the diesel cops/DOT bears have and use a cb.I have been pulled over SEVERAL times by them on one especially in rural areas when they want to DOT you.
-
Why just two weeks ago I was loading at a warehouse near a rest area. Over the radio I heard "How about you east bound" "Goe ahead" "Say please pull into the rest area. Going to do a quick walk around and paper work check"
Yeap DOT was sitting in the rest area on the corner of Highway 2 and highway 18 just west of Grand Forks North Dakota. -
I would imagine that with all the stupidity on the CB, it would be pretty hard to have to listen to it every day when you have a serious job to do that requires a certain focus and attitude. You don't want to stop a trucker to check something out with an attitude colored by a CB Rambo Racist ##### moron who's just called you out.
If I were a cop I'd only have it on to talk TO someone, not to monitor it. I don't do that now. -
I never hear anyone on the cb. Not even truckers.

Once upon a time we were doing the "Cow-Truck" two-step into deep south Texas. Someone chimes a bear report and we roll it back till we can get a solid 20 on the critter.
The area(Alice TX) was well known for a hard ashtray TX DPS that was black.
We were getting close and heard he cut him loose and is flipping back north bound. . . . .
Bout that time we come into range of an upset driver leaving with his Safe Driving Award,he went all in on the racial comments and other assorted language.
Guess who was listening on Ch19 ?,we rolled up just as the cop told the driver to pull safely to the right .....
Pretty sure he got his lips clipped
