So you own a 53' Dry Van. Its got more space on it than anything on the road. I got to thinking...why is it just white? Why not slap an ad on it for a few hundred or so every month? Maby thousands? I don't know.
Am I on to something here, or is there little corporate demand for huge mobile billboards 100 times the size on the sides of buses?
Any experiences with this idea?

There are companies that do this, or atleast used to
trucker43 Thanks this. -
Interesting. Do you know how to get in touch with companies that do that?
-
get with a local graphics company and compare prices on vinyl, screen prints and maybe even explore wrapping. see whats involved price wise for the shop to create and install everything from a simple to a complex design using various materials
then create 3 packages, a simple one, a fancy one and one in between ( people like to have choices )
know what your costs are and decide on what you want to make on each package, also decide how long the ad will run for. have a liason at the sign shop that can take the customers ad requirements and put it into a graphic form.
once you have your cost established, have them make you a simple vinyl decal saying something to the effect of:
Adverstise Here!
Nationwide Exposure with Low Rates!
Alway use a website because people can remember that easier than a phone number, use something catchy like AdTrucks ( that name might be taken but just giving you and idea )
this is very effective advertising you will have some takers for sure. keep your costs low at first to get your name out there then raise your prices and profit points gradually as the demand for your product increase ( the walmart effect )
hope this gives you a few ideas.

That sounds like a great idea. Have you done this? If not, why?
-
@Mr. WinBig - that is exactly the idea I have had for years but have never acted on it; i would much rather drive the truck pulling the trailer with the ad on it, even if it pays less; go figure!
there are companies (ad agencies) that do this but no one on a large scale that aggressively goes after truckers; specifically owner operators desperate to add to their bottom line. -
Speaking from someone that owns a small (home based) vinyl lettering business.... If going to run advertisement of that size for a longterm ad a Printed decal is the best way to go and depending on the company they are not that badly priced.
If planning on running ads on the trailer that are going to be short term ones Like date specific as in the UFC example the best bet would be a printed banner. The reason for this the Time it would take to install/remove the vinyl when the advertisement is over or going to be changed.
Wraps on the otherhand... Those are a really sweet idea but you can plan on the trailer being out of service for at least 3 days for them to apply the material and probably a week plus to remove the wrap when changing ads.
The banner style is the best idea once ya figure out a good securement method to keep it from coming off or shredding while going down the road with the best part being that it be stuck on the trailer in about 15-30min once have a mounting system inplace... Oh and with the banners a printed one that is 9X48 would probably run about $2K. A dealership I used to work at paid 1800 for a two color cut vinyl banner and I made one up that was single color for $800...
just my.02 worth on the signshop infor side of the idea... But in reality it is a Great idea for extra revenue for O/Os out there ! -
The Canadian carriers have been advertising their company's strenghts for years on the sides of their trailers. Very seldom see one without something relating to the company on them.
Used to be some of the LTL carriers here did too, but havent seen that as much lately -
nice article about advertising on trucks,

use to install Morgan Van Bodies Truckskin. 2 of us could do a 26' body in a couple of hours for the intial install, could swap out grapihics on both side in less than 1/2 hour after that.
