Bought this radio at a pilot for $49 after my $300 connex took a crap, needed it in OHIO to fly low.
This thing really makes me embarrassed to own a connex, THIS THING recieves better, less noise. Gets out about the same, no real difference, and everyone who has heard it has commented that it sounds great.
Co-worker said, "you finally got that connex tuned in", i said no this is my new $50 radio...he really did not believe me, and was thinking of ditching his Galaxy on ebay and getting one.

Wow, that is surprising.
I know a lot of great yet 'cheap' radios. I have radioshack radio with just a volume knob and channel selector, and everyone says that it sounds great. I bought it because I wanted to find the smallest radio that I could to put in my van.
I have a PC78 in my truck, and I feel like all the extra that I paid for, is just to have some extra knobs on the radio, but the signal and the sound is going to be the same. -
What connex model did you have?
-
4300hp connex
and this midland is actually model 5001z

It will be a cold day in hell before Midland makes a $50 radio that does 70+ watts.
If you had a 4300 and only payed $300 for its prolly the reason you only payed $300 for it.
