No you don't....BUT
If it throws a code and shuts down, and the code doesn't show when hooked to diagnostic. A good tech can read the printout to see what was going on at that time (mileage).
There is a whole host of additional information availible to good mechanic, other than reading a code, then refering to a "manual". -
when you look up a code it will give eng hrs when code accured and current eng hours no need to note at what mileage check eng light came on
-
Again...yes.
But if the engine displays NO code when hooked to a diagnostic. What are you going to look at ? Everything ??
Or a small window.
I struggled with the same "shut down" for 6 months, until the mech asked me to write the milage down. BECAUSE it would never show a code when hooked to diagnostics.
End result....NO CODES when hooked to diagnostics. And a fixed truck....that day. -
if it throws a code it logs eng hours when code was thrown. if there is NO code then it won't---mileage won't help. You expierence was most likely coincidence. In one sentence you say "it threw a code" in the next you say it didn't. If the eng throws a code the ecm will log the time it did and a good mech will have no problem finding it
-
No...what I said is it threw a code. I'm speaking of flash codes.
Then when the truck was taken to the shop to be put on diagnostic, it showed NO diagnostic codes in memory. And the truck would be running perfect.
While you may assume there was not a "real" code being thrown during this period. I assure you, the fact that I was sitting on the side of the interstate after the engine went into shutdown on more than a dozen occasions.....proves different.
Better yet..I'll provide you with a "fix" that I used to prevent this until I got into the shop. And you diagnose the problem. With the same information.
The engine shutdown light would come on, I would flip the fan on. The light would go off, then I would proceed down the road.
This much was a constant. If I failed to turn the fan on, the truck would shut down. The temperature NEVER got out of normal parameters.
I know what the problem was....what do you think the problem was? Or do you need a diagnostic to check for codes that aren't going to be there? -
I am havinhg the same problem does anyone know how to fix it ...please I need A/C

!46 MIDS is not a correct "message identifier", !28 is engine 136 is anti-lock brakes, 140 is instrument control unit left, 142 is instrument control unit, Right, 172 is service link, 179 is data logging unit, 190 is air conditioner protection unit, and 219 is collision warning unit. If the 010 is engine then it is Injector cylinder #10. ABS it is preasure modulation valve ABS Axle 2 right. The last 12 is a Failure mode Identifier, FMI 12 is bad intelligent device or component. Hope this helps
