Year and a half now, I'm sub contracting to a race car fab shop currently but trying to get my in at TECO (Tampa electric co) because there is a coal plant that they are starting to switch over to gas near me that's gonna be a ton of work.

As one of the representatives in Brown on the site, I will just say that I am almost at 3 years seniority, I'm already making really decent money, and I love my job.
The new contract really helped out the guys in the progression. Making $24 an hour and 67 cents per mile, I'm basically on track to make what I typically made at my old company, only working 5 days per week as opposed to 6.
It's not for everyone, and the first year or two can be rough. But if you can make it through that, you've got a great job for life.De Trucker, Bob Dobalina, SidewaysBentHalo and 3 others Thank this. -
I liked it because I could drive it in about 6.5 hours. Then I got free pay 3.5 hours at straight time while at the hotel to make it a 10 hour day since the job was bid as four 10’s. Then on Saturday my loads weren’t ready until about 2-3 hours after my 10 hour break, so I got paid hourly to wait at the hotel. Sunday and Monday was about the same as Friday. For the hours worked it was a great gig except the days. The driver that ran it before me was on it for over 10 years.FlaSwampRat and LtlAnonymous Thank this.

Oh lawdy, dont bring up the two-tier pay on the board. There are ups guys on here that still dont understand it and think everyone will still receive the same pay.FlaSwampRat Thanks this.

Thanks yeah I just found out about the helmets to hardhats program like two days ago. I been out the Airforce since 2018. I’m under the apprenticeship program now for my trucking job that I work now. The pay definitely helps alongside with my disability as well. I saw the plumbers to pipe fitters program as well. I was referred to a welding union job but the job is too far from where I live.BigDog Trucker and FlaSwampRat Thank this.

Yeah that’s what I’m trying to look at which is the bigger picture. So do you drive ltl and if so was it hard for you to get in.LtlAnonymous Thanks this.

I am a feeder driver for the parcel side. I had to do two rounds of seasonal over 10 months. That was a nerve-wracking time. And then full-time pay when I started was $18.75 an hour and 40 cents per mile, so the nerves were not over yet. Lol
Thankfully that anemic low starting pay has been addressed in the new contract. It's not glamorous, but you will be able to pay your bills hopefully.SidewaysBentHalo and FlaSwampRat Thank this.
