I wouldn't say I'm reliant on cheap insurance to stay afloat. I just figured the more startup capital I keep in my pocket the better off I am. And, as far as how 'good' the coverage is, I tend to view insurance like an extended warranty. Sure, it sounds nice on paper but, at the end of the day, it's a racket. I figure on the big claims any company is liable to just out-lawyer you and litigate you to death.

I'm just hoping to get the name of the actual company at the end of this and see if I can't get some straight talk from reviews about how they are.

Well it's good to hear that someone else has a policy in the ballpark; I'd considered leveraging amex's customer-friendly transaction disputes for this.

They should give you the name of the underwriter company and contact details. Sounds like a scam to me just based on what you have said here. I’d dig way deeper before paying any money.

Yeah, I guess I was just hoping somebody here might have dealt with them or had a buddy who got scammed by a company and could tell me the general profile of what the scam looks like

Just a bit of advice, and take it seriously - you get what you pay for.

If the insurance is cheap, when you make a claim, you may not get it paid or have to fight for it to be paid at what they think it should be.

Well, I got them to update my quote for the truck I've got picked out and he told me the policy is through progressive. He also confirmed that he can take the downpayment on AMEX with a service charge. So, I guess if it's a scam I'll just dispute it and let y'all know that they're a scam. If not I guess I'll recommend them highly lol

When I called for insurance from many different agents, they were all Progressive and the prices were all over the place.

I came to find out that the reason why the prices are all different is because sometimes different agents write the policy differently.

The problem with that is two things. If they do not write the policy correctly, you can have a lower rate but you're not really insured as you are supposed to be, meaning somewhere you could have a claim that's not paid because your policy was not written properly.

The other problem is that if they give you a price of $10,000 and You Begin a policy, if Progressive reviews that policy and finds out that your premium should be $20,000 they will just bill you for the balance. So if you started out paying $1,000 a month and that went on for a few months they can tell you that your policy is supposed to be 20,000 and your price will go to $2,000 a month or $3,000 a month or $4,000 a month whatever it is until you are even with them. If you do not pay it they will cancel you.

What I did was I called around until I found the lowest rate through Progressive. Then I have a local agent that I have known for many years who does my house and my car and he has always done insurance for our family. He is a broker and he gets prices from all kinds of insurance companies.

I got the lowest price and I sent the actual quote to him. He contacted his Progressive rep and he went through all of the coverages with him. He went through every single solitary thing to make certain that that policy was written correctly.

It's funny because every single agent that I spoke with including the one that does my family's insurance, every one of them told me that if you go through Progressive it doesn't matter what agent that you pick, the price should be the same. Maybe if they write it in such a way that the premium is high their agency makes more money?

In my case, the lowest price was the correct coverage.

You can also call Progressive directly and get a quote right from them.

I don't know what you mean by that, but you need to start with the policy that has all the coverages that you need to satisfy FMCSA for your liability and cargo insurance and whatever additional you need to insure the truck itself.

You can add onto the cargo insurance if you start pulling high-value loads.

Higher deductibles and insuring your truck at a lower overall value can lower your premium.

You’ve got to be careful. We had a local, well respected, insurance agent here in town. Friend of mine who was a house builder used them. He had built a house, but it sat a long time on the market. While it was vacant, a water pipe busted in the attic and it ran for more than a week unnoticed, the house was ruined. When he went to file a claim, he found out he didn’t have any insurance.

What happened was the agent had been taking money for insurance for years from people but not actually paying the insurance company. Everything was fine until there was a claim. The agent did go to jail, but my friend never saw a dime. It financially ruined him and he lost his business.

Tsk tsk @Total Trucking Ins, and for shame.

Such temper, such attitude. Totally the wrong way to go about it.

What we have here is one customer asking for personal experience and reviews, some advice offered, and the company being discussed coming on and raising all kinda Cain. Pro tip @Total Trucking Ins: calling possible clients "clueless" and saying we need to be "educated"....not a really good sales pitch, ya know?

Personally, I am now convinced that @Total Trucking Ins is a scam. Non scam type businesses generally keep their public (internet) profiles a bit more professional and a lot less insulting to prospective clients.

So maybe @Total Trucking Ins should perhaps take the keyboard away from "Fallyn", yes?
