Yeah, the construction in this portion of I-78 is drastically needed. It's in the middle of nowhere but, traffic is typically heavy since it's a route that terminates in the NYC area.

I haven't heard the details of the accident but, given the aggressive habits of most SUV drivers I'd be willing to bet the 18-wheelers were innocent.

I would like to give you the details of the accident. I am the sister of the entire family that was killed in that fatal crash on I 78. My 31 year old brother was driving a Jeep Liberty. He had my 29 year old sister in law and my 4 Year old niece in the car. My neice was going to be turning 5 years old on November 14th.

A tractor trailer was in front of my brother's vehicle stopped. My brother approached the tractor trailer and stopped also. Mr. Lawrence E. Bank's was also driving a tractor trailer. The police will not release why the following occurred, but apparently Mr. Banks did not slow down when approaching the stopped traffic. He slammed so hard into the back of my brother's vehicle that he crushed the entire vehicle and family into the back of the stopped tractor trailer. Then, because Mr. Banks was driving so fast, he drove over my brother's vehicle crushing it from the top also. At that point, if any of my family was still alive, and I pray not, they were burned to death as the tractor trailer and the SUV caught fire. 1/3 of my family is dead because they were going to put money down on a new house.

Mr. Banks only received burns and has been upgraded to fair condition in the hospital. Because PA. authorities are investing the accident, they still have not released the bodies (or whatever could be left) to my family.

So, to respond to your post, NO my brother was not an "aggressive SUV driver!"

Thank you and I appreciate being able to respond!

Yes, I agree. However, all we have to go on now is the police report and eyewitness accounts of what had happened.

You have my apologies and deepest sympathy. My comments were not intended to offend, which they clearly have. They were purely based on personal experience and observation. I did not mean you, your brother or your family any harm or disrespect. Again, I'm sorry.

Very true and why I said what I said in the first place. I don't have an SUV... I don't even have my CDL yet. My car is a 2000 Honda Accord EX. I would say at least 3 times a week I have an SUV tailgating me and/or cutting me off regardless if its on the Interstate or on the back roads. I don't think they realize how dangerous their over confidence is. If they get into an accident with me they're more likely to get hurt than I am due to the possibility of a roll over.

Yeah, you're right. Guess I'm being the over confident one now! :laughing8: Seriously though, your statement explains why SUV drivers need to understand that they have a greater responsibility driving a larger vehicle.

Replace SUV with the term big truck and your post would be just as true.
    It works both ways.

Some things we know for sure:

    1. This SUV was stopped.
2 The SUV was rear ended by a big truck.

What this means is the the vehicle that rear ended the other vehicle is at fault. AUTOMATICLY! Nothing in the police report will indicate differently. This driver should be charged with every death and he should go to prison for a very long time.

I know I am a hard case when it comes to this but, these are the facts. Even if his brakes failed (very unlikely) it wold still be his fault for driving an unsafe vehicle.

Hell, The next time it might be me and my family in my SUV or yours.

Jennyret, My sympathies to you and your family.

Earthbrown..........Your post was tasteless and I removed it......
