A friend has a '99 VNL12.7 Detroit with a bad instrument cluster. His cluster has 10 gauges. He found one at salvage for a Detroit but has 7 gauges. Will the 7 gauge cluster work in place of the 10 gauge cluster? Thanks for the help.

No it wont unless you have ecm reflashed for those missing components. I also have a 10 gauge cluster in my 2001 volvo 660 with Detroit 12.7 and pyrometer gauge was working all over the place. Went to a place in Richmond VIRGINIA that does vehicle gauge cluster repair and led lighting. They fixed me up for under $300. Everything works like new and all led bulbs now as well.silver dollar and mp4694330 Thank this.

Yes, it will work without problems if it's 1999 and up. 1998 were different

You're saying that the seven gauge cluster will replace the ten gauge cluster without any problems?
-
Yes, I have a 2000, 2001 and 2003 Volvo trucks and swapped clusters without problems between them.
Gauges will work fine. The only problem you might get is in the digital display in the lower left corner, features might be missing. For example if you put cluster from manual truck to automatic, you won't be able to do transmission diagnostic by yourself.
You can also send the original cluster for repair, just look up on eBay Volvo Vnl cluster repairGuf and silver dollar Thank this. -
Thanks for the information.
